    I have to disagree. SE has tied lots of things into lots of different content systems for the sake of players giving lots of different things a try. Fate are connected (to an extent) to crafting by the crafting mats bought with grand company seals. This is just one example.

    How is that even restrictive ? The issue isn't that it's tied to a Content System, the issue is using a restrictive Content System on something that could have achieved a similar results on an unrestricted one.

    To answer your question, having to do one thing in order to start or progress in another thing. Most MMOs are built that way. As far as the game developers using a restrictive content system in the first place, my guess would be to keep payers from completing tasks too quickly in the game and hurting SE's subscription based business model.
