To answer your question, having to do one thing in order to start or progress in another thing. Most MMOs are built that way. As far as the game developers using a restrictive content system in the first place, my guess would be to keep payers from completing tasks too quickly in the game and hurting SE's subscription based business model.

I understand. I just got through hunting with them for most of the day and it was a blast. S's have been stingy but we got alot of A's. Good times ^^

As I've said before; I dislike the very concept of guilds. Their very presence has done more to damage the social atmosphere I desire in most game than virtually any other feature.

the big obvious one, that it's a mmo and mmo's have socialization.
    ...
Like I said, there's no reason not to join one, it's also a mmo, not a single player game.
As I've said, they don't promote the type of social atmosphere I want, or feel a game should foster.
Guilds are at their core a system that promotes insularity and the 'group' over the individuals that comprise it. I much prefer the idea of treating everyone else as being just as (potentially) relevant and worth spending my time with as anyone else, regardless of what arbitrary tag they have over their head. 'Guildies' would never be anything more to me than random non-guild-player #254 and would never merit any more of my time, attention, or consideration than anyone else simply by virtue of guild membership.

And as far as joining one of the faceless mega-guilds goes, at that point, what is the point in having all this stuff behind such a pointless and useless wall? I'm already stuck as a member of the mega-guild known as 'Cactuar'; just give all the benefits to all such members of this 'guild'. :-)

You don't have to do fates to get the GC seals for those crafting mats. If nothing else, you can just buy them from the marketboard from those who are OK with getting/spending seals.
Though not ideal, I'd have been OK with buying the fruits from gardeners and just using them on my Chocobo as I'm able. THAT part of the system is slightly comparable; it's the stable/feeding part that is not.

The problem is this keeps coming up. I knew personal housing had been dragged out until that point, but with that being known there was no reason to make so many of these systems restricted to housing in the first place. Every patch having the main feature I'm interested in being flagged with a huge "You'll get access to this later!" banner has gotten really old.
Why not start with public stables and then add them to houses later?
Why not start with a public garden area and then add garden plots to houses later?
Why not design chocobo dyeing to be something that can be done freely instead of this arbitrarily convoluted, housing-dependent mess in the first place?

As it stands, I really wish I had waited to give them any more money until they've actually added the features I want in an approachable manner.
Though I knew (and was willing to tolerate) the reason for personal housing coming later than FC housing, that had been the feature I was looking forward to the most in this game, honestly. But at this point, as long as its taken to surface, with everything else of interest being pushed off into it, I've become rather bitter and jaded towards it in general, and I don't see myself finding much fun with it anymore.

I am very cool with FCs/Guilds having their own content. It does promote the idea of joining a FC, and it incentivizes players to socialize.... in a mmo.... because that is what you do My only beef with stables currently being designated for FCs is that Chocobos themselves are not inherently group-friendly per say. They're pointless when it comes to many end-game content and goals and what not. So why designate content designed to further another piece of content that currently benefits solo and small party play? That simply doesn't make sense.

Basically, me training my chocobo and you training yours doesn't really have a significant impact on our FC as a whole. Housing did. It provided social enhancements and gave FCs another reason to work together. Chocobo training is a very solo-player-centric idea.

I'm not upset or angry about stables in their current design.... but their implementation is flawed to some degree.

I don't know where you're getting this info from, but that's not my experience so far, nor is it the experience of those in the SB testing threads. The sweet spot for SB gain is on mobs approx. 10 levels higher than the gear you are SBing. I think people just read SB rates increased for using level appropriate gear means if gear=mob level you SB faster, which isn't true.

I used to SB open world, now I'll be SBing in dungeons. Will I be so under geared people will have to carry me? No, but then I never did that, and very rarely saw it either. I will however be less able to carry the newer players who I am usually DFed with in the dungeons.
