    Race choice

Hi guys, I'd like to ask about a race selection for Conjurer. Can I go with any race, or there are some that should be avoided? I know that the stat difference isn't that big, it just seems to me that there is a lot of Miqo'te and practicaly no Elezen (Duskwight) - judging this from Gridania starting zone, which may not be the best reference though - , which I'd like to play . The second choice would be Lalafell (Dunesfolk) I think.
I'm just curious, if there is something later in the game that makes some race to stand out more for some class or is it just that people love tails and furry ears for their Conjurers?

    Thanks

    Any race you like.

It is just people like cat girls....

Be just what you like to see the most, mainstream or not

    Welcome!

Choice of race pretty much just comes down to which you like the best - stat differences between each race are actually extremely minor and really don't have any noticeable effect on gameplay, so it's really it's appearance that is usually the deciding factor. Lore wise Eorzea is a multiracial melting pot anyway so any race can easily fit in starting in any city (so if you want to start as a roegadyn in Gridania for instance, it's completely fine ).

And yes, miqo'te is a very popular race choice - I play as a miqo'te Seeker of the Sun because I love cats in real life so it's natural for me. :3 Lore wise, a lot of miqo'te actually can be found in Gridania, especially from the Keepers of the Moon clan, but there are a few Seekers of the Sun there too.

Duskwight elezen are actually a minority in Gridania lore wise believe it or not, and have a bad reputation amongst the townspeople (a lot of the bandits and poachers found in the Black Shroud are duskwight).

Anyway, go with whatever race you like - with the Fantasia potion even if you don't end up liking your choice you can actually change your character's race and gender later on anyway without sacrificing your progress in the game.

Like Thaliss says: Pick any race you want.

Personally I am one of those Miqo'te Conjurers you talk about. I chose Miqo'te because I liked the models the best. Not too big or bulky, not too tiny and fragile, human seemed so... bland... I tried out Elezen but I couldn't help but feel unnatural. I picked Miqo'te and I'm enjoying it. :P

Stat wise race is completely useless. The stats are so minor that it'll only have a difference of like 20 HP or +5 extra damage and heals (Guesstimate) at 50. Which ofcourse is completely negligible.

So my advice in this is: Pick what you think looks good and ignore what everyone else does. With all the customization options I have yet to see anyone that looks like me; even though there are loads of Miqo'te

Miqo'te just happen to be popular all over. You see a lot less Elezen and Roegadyn (specifically female Roegadyn) than anything else.

There's nothing in the game that really sets any race apart from any other, it's basically just personal choice and a lot of people happen to like cat-people.

    Thanks for all you replies

I have actually ended up with Hyur as I didn't like how Elezen runs but might change my mind again as I'm not 100% decided (damn me!). Maybe I just spend a lot of time on such, from the greater perspective, insignificant thing instead of actually playing

For me personally.. I thought the Elezens looked kinda silly, particularly the females. They have gigantic shoulders compared to their heads, and it looks weird to me. I've never been a fan of the "child like" races in games like this.. and cat people simply aren't my style. Besides, in a sea of exotic people, a Human character can be pretty unique.

10 posts per page is only the default setting; it is bad, and you should feel bad if you haven't changed it.

    True that.
The good thing is, you can always redo.

    OT:
You also get a potion after being subbed for 30 days which will allow you to change your entire appearance including sex and race. Basically everything except name.

There are also a couple types of opportunities to change your appearance around after character creation:

At level 15, you can unlock access to the Aesthetician, which lets you change around things like hairstyle and color, tattoos, and a number of other things, though it doesn't allow complete recustomization like changing races. Use of the Aesthetician's service costs 2,000 gil (except for the first time, which is free), but you can do it as often as you like. (And while 2,000 gil may sound like an outrageous price at level 15 when you first unlock it, once you level up a bit and the money starts rolling in faster, it'll soon be reasonable enough.) It may also allow a few styles not initially available during character creation. For instance, if you do the first quest of the Lightning Strikes event (which will be on from September 1st to 10th) you'll unlock either Lightning's hairstyle (for female characters) or Snow's hairstyle (for male characters), and those will then be accessible through the Aesthetician. (And it's a precedent suggesting there's likely to be more unlockable styles in the future. At least I hope so.)

Then the first time you pay a subscription fee (to extend your sub beyond the 30 days that come with purchase of the game), you'll get a Fantasia potion, that allows complete re-customization of your appearance, even including race and gender. (Though, as Nerael mentioned, it doesn't allow changing your name, so if your name is chosen to suit the particular race and/or gender you start with, it may end up looking out of place if you change those.) You get just one of these Fantasia potions (that's one per character if you play multiple alts) for that first Veteran Reward. You can purchase more through the Mog Station, but those cost real money and still have limitations on how many you can get.
