Do those characters from the Opening Cinematic exist in the Story?

Hmm, interesting. I'm not trudging through 96 pages of posts to find one comment, so I'll just take your word on it :P

Either way, I definitely hope to see more out of Derplander/Meteor and crew! Would be cool to see them as recognizable characters, to sort of help move the story along in more ways than "Alphanaud constantly bossing you around".

They are the Default Characters of 1.0 named the Warriors of Light and if a player is a Legacy Player then the Legacy Player is a member of the Warriors of Light. New characters created in 2.0 are their successors due to being chosen as the new Warriors of Light named New Adventurers.

The story slightly differs between Legacy and New Adventurers since Legacy version is slightly altered represent the player is a Warrior of Light of 1.0 that has returned.

They all ventured into Eorzea at the same time as you did. They all did similar quests, and lived through similar adventures. They exist as your characters exist (in a virtual world-sort of existence).
