This is incorrect. I have changed my chocobo color 4 times now and one food will affect all three color ratios.
I used 5 pears (one feather change) this last attempt and my chocobo went from Peacock Blue R52, G97, B127 to Turquoise Green R60, G107, B107 = +R8, +G10, -B20
The cake is a lie.
+R8, +G10, -B20? 8 10 20 its the key for one feather change?
I think the color theory is more/or maybe less complex than just comparing the exact RGB numbers. If the colors were arranged on a color wheel chart based on the position of their RGB and then compared on their value and distance between other colors, I believe it would be easier to see in which direction to change the coloring with the corresponding foods.
I wanted a Turquoise Green chocobo to begin with.
My first color change I ended up with Sky Blue because I fed it a lot of plums and had several feather change messages. (I didn't keep track because I was following the 28 berries = Celeste Green). This means I went from the original RGB value of R216, G175 B80 (Desert Yellow) to R124, G171, B207 (Sky Blue) = -R92, -G4, +B127
My second attempt I had no feather messages even though I fed it a lot of food and ended up with no color change.
My third attempt I went from Sky blue to Raptor blue using Berries (1 feather). R124, G171, B207 (Sky Blue) to R84, G120, B188 (Raptor Blue) = -R40, -G51, -B19
My fourth attempt I went from Raptor Blue to Peacock Blue by using Berries (5 feather), Pears (8 feather), and apples (1 feather). (deepen blue, deepen green, deepen red). This means I went from R84, G120, B188 (Raptor Blue) to R52, G97, B127 (Peacock Blue) = -R32, -G23, -B61
My fifth attempt. I knew I was close to Turquoise Green once I landed on Peacock Blue. There was maybe one shade difference and I knew I needed a little more green to push it away from blue. I fed pears until I got one feather message and finally got my Turquoise chocobo. R52, G97, B127 (Peacock Blue) to R60, G107, B107 (Turquoise Green) = +R8, +G10, -B20.

This is the closest thing to a guide I've seen, and makes perfect sense. It also matches with the people progressively making changes and reporting here.I think the color theory is more/or maybe less complex than just comparing the exact RGB numbers. Due to forum posting limits I can't help with coloring as much as I'd like, so visit me here: http://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodestone/character/2168293/blog/1568406/ for my coloring "blog".
