I'm at Shale Brown, what should I feed it to get to Soot Black?

Here's my method.

Starting Color: Desert Yellow Feed:[16 (14 feathers) berries, 6 apples, 9 pears]

First Color: Shale Brown Feed:[2 apple, 2 berries, 4 pears (1 feather)]

Second Color:Cactuar Green Feed:[2 apples (1 feather), 2 berries]

Ya i try yours ended up getting Lilac Purple first time i put it i did not get any feathers so took it out and try again. Got 14 and feed two more issue was that apples and pears also go the feather message. Which mean to follow someone else way of getting it you would have to take your chocobo out. Waste a lot of feed and time to get it 100% the way someone else did.

By the look of it there no real way of getting soot black by just following someone you have to just do it yourself and hope you get it.

Hi guys, I've got a question that has probably been answered a hundred times already. I'm trying to get my Choco to Dalamud Red. He's currently Sunset Orange and should change again in a few hours into (I hope) Blood Red. According to the chart I saw I then need to give it berries to change into Dalamud Red. But the chart also says that if I give it berries it could change into Regal Purple. So what gives? Is it random which one I get? And if I do get Regal Purple, how do I then get it to Dalamud Red? Thanks for the help?

I went from coral pink to dalamud red with these steps :

coral pink => berries => sunset orange => berries => blood red => berries => dalamud red

I wouldn't say mainstream. Despite many of the people on the forums having 'em or aiming for them, I've seen very few in game. At least so far. I think the majority of the playerbase probably still lacks either the funds or time and dedication. I expect when the food drops further in price more will pop up though.

Here's my Soot Black journal. Hopefully this data can be of some help!

Notes:
- Each feeding is approximately 6-8 hours apart.
- I messed up on Feeding #5 by accidentally feeding it the wrong fruit. But luckily, I was able to go back.
- After the 5th feeding, I would stop feeding a particular fruit after I got a single "new feathers" message for it before moving on to the next.


Original Color - Desert Yellow

1st Feeding: 10 apples, 10 pears, 20 berries- Blood Red
2nd Feeding: 5 apples, 4 pears, 9 berries - Rolandberry Red
3rd Feeding: 1 Apple, 8 Pears, 1 Berries - Russet Brown
4th Feeding: 4 Apples, 4 Pears, 4 Berries - Wine Red
5th Feeding: 6 Apples - Dalamud Red
6th Feeding: 3 Berries, 1 pear, 1 apple, 1 plum - Wine Red
7th Feeding: 4 Plums - Kobold Brown
8th Feeding: 2 Plums - Soot Black

I decided to start over as my head was in a bit of a muddle. Been through so many different colours trying to work out the best combination and like some others probably become a little frustrated.
So... after having seen a few ppl use this method I decided to use 30 berries and 10 apples to get to Royal Blue. This worked for me and George turned Royal Blue (first new feather growth message was after 3rd berry, and then I had the message after every berry and apple fed to him). Unfortunately I didn't actually like the colour so thought I may as well try for Soot Black again... I had then seen that someone had successfully got to Soot Black from Royal Blue using red and green deepening, with a final blue and green at the end from Loam Brown.

So, last night I gave 3 apples (growing new feathers message) 10 pears (><) until new feathers growth message, then also a further 2 apples and 2 pears individually which gave growth messages for each one. I was hoping because of the messages after each that I would possibly jump further past blue into Loam Brown, but I ended up with Woad Blue. Not sure if it is just because from Royal Blue it needs coaxing with individual steps for change to a new colour range... or probably I didnt feed enough fruits (which is more likely).
I have fed with a further 2 apples and 3 pears, receiving growth message after the second apple and third pear. Hoping that when I get back this evening he will be at the next step of Shadow Blue. From there it should *crosses fingers* be to Loam Brown then Soot Black. If he turns another weird colour I may cry ; ;

** Ok just got home to check and he's now currant purple......... Fed two pears, growth message after each.... hoping to hit lucky but will more than likely not lol

Okay need help badly.

Was at Moss Green last night and fed 3 pears to get feather message. This morning I checked and now it's acorn brown.

So I fed 4 apples and a berry to get feather message. I then fed 5 pineapples with no feather message trying to raise the blue a little.

Not sure what I will end up with this afternoon, but I'm shooting for Ochu Green. Any help?

Anyone able to help me get my Sea Fog Blue Chocobo to Sky Blue?

I keep getting Adamantoise Green when I try to use the pineapple. I think I may be stuck in a loop.
