    To the questions directed at me, I apologize for not answering. I was sleeping >_<.

    Basically though, ignore any fruits that do no give the message. They "don't count" as far as I can tell. Unless the result I got with ~25 fruits based on a calculation being the result I was aiming for was a complete fluke, that should be the key to figuring out how to traverse the colors, at least in a brute force kind of way.

    Also, I've gone through like half a dozen colors changes on my chocobo now, and in this I noticed a pattern. Each time I started a new 6 hr countdown by feeding it, I always had the first 1-3 fruits give no feather notification. Once I finally got the notification though, I got it for every fruit I fed after it during the 6hr window.

    There was one exception to this, and that was when the stable was in Poor condition. In that case I fed nearly 5 or so pears before I saw a message, and after it was still spotty with occasional fruits not going through.

    Best of luck to everyone, especially those following my suggestions. I sincerely hope they work, because it may help shed a lot more light on what's going on in the system with a few more confirmations.

    Stormfly devours the bunch of O'Ghomoro berris.
    Stormfly's plumage will change in 6 hours.

    7 feeds, 5 change messages = Aldgoat Brown. I really want Raptor Blue, but so far have hit a brown of some shade four times now. I'm thinking I may need to take some red out, but according to the doc that tracks feeds (which I seem to have lost the link to) shoving just berries at it should result in some kind of blue. Do I need to give it more blue, or should I try taking out some red?

    Indeed, I fed my bird more berries and will wait to see what happens in a few hours. Eight berries this time with seven change procs.

    I initially wanted Lime Green and was successful in attaining it after two feedings (8 Mamook pears altogether). Now that I'm there, it's not quite as vibrant as I was hoping. So I want to get to Hunter Green. Should I just feed it more Mamook pears? Or do I need to add any other fruits?

    You are at 166/171/77 and want to get to 34/68/38. That's a big shift. If I'm right about how things work, you want to focus on Pears to drop the red and the blue, and Berries to slow the blue down and drop the green. You want probably relatively equal quantities of both, but more Pears in the end. But, if I'm right, the amount that the values are dropped is random, so you'll have to re-evaluate when you get to the darker colors. You will likely want some Apples too to speed the drop of all three colors, but less Apples than the rest.

    You'll probably go through a bunch of other colors on the way. Meadow Green might be one of the first you hit on your way down. If you hit Adamantoise, Ochu, or Norphica, you want to lessen the Berries and increase the Pears. If you reach Norphica, you have the green exactly where you want it, but too much red and blue. So, just a few Pears and no more Berries should get you there. If you hit Olive Green, it would mean you still have too much Red (feed Pears and Berries equally). If you get Marsh Green, it means you have equal green and red and too little blue (again, Pears+Berries is good, but you might also want to throw in a couple Plums to get the Blue up). If you reach Deepwood Green, you had the right proportions of things, but overshot Hunter Green by lowering the green too much. A few Plums and Pineapples should get the green back up without affecting the other two too much.

    So, start with Pears + Berries, and then re-evaluate after some color changes. Don't worry too much about getting random colors on the way, as long as all three values are trending downward, you're on the right track.

    Desert Yellow (start) - 6 red, 9 green, 3 blue
    Millicorn Yellow -1 red
    Coeurl Yellow - 6 red, 6 blue
    Pumpkin Orange

    So my Coeurl Yellow turned Pumpkin Orange. At least I'm getting closer to Dalamud!

    So, after reading a lot of what others have done and trying to work it out myself, I'm pretty sure this is how the system works:

    Like others have said:
    Apples = +R -G -B
    Plums = -R +G +B
    Berries = -R -G +B
    Pineapples = +R +G -B
    Pears = -R +G -B
    Valfruits = +R -G +B
    1. The amount the colors shift with each feeding is random. Supporting Evidence: Some people have fed one food item and received a change, others have fed the same food item and not received a change.
    2. The colors do not shift proportionally, meaning, one feeding of an Apple could reduce Green considerably and blue barely at all, and another feeding could reduce Green by a tiny amount and blue considerably. Supporting Evidence: Different people have fed their chocobos Berries until the first New Feathers message and received either Cork Brown or Ul Brown.
    3. The "New Feathers" message means the current RGB value matches a different dye color than the previous RGB value so a change will occur. Colors have always changed when the "New Feathers" message has appeared. Colors have never changed when the message did not appear.
    4. Once the "New Feathers" message has appeared, future feedings will result in the "New Feathers" message happening every time even if there is not a second dye shift, because the new color is still different from the old one. However, if the new color shifts such that it now matches your current color, you will stop getting the "New Feathers message." Stopping feeding right then will result in no change occurring. Supporting Evidence: Every feeding after a message appears results in another message appearing, except when oscillating between two colors or going backwards with a counteracting snack. No proof found for or against the second point.
    5. The color approximation code can bounce back and forth between two adjacent colors when small changes are made, probably because the color balance matters as much as the color values. Supporting Evidence: Feeding a chocobo nothing but Plums until the "New Feathers" message can result in bouncing back and forth between Sylph Green (R:182 G:182 B:131) and Bone White (R:233 G:208 B:154). (The value could have gone something like 216/175/100 (Sylph Green) -> 216/175/120 (Bone White) -> 216/200/120 (Sylph Green) -> 216/200/150 (Bone White))

    So, all of this means that exact methods of getting from one color to another are not that helpful. What's more helpful is a chart that says which fruits are likely to get you from your current color to your desired color. Similar to the color wheels that have been posted, but with the dyes plotted on them. Unfortunately, this would take a three dimensional representation, as there are three axes.

    If #5 is correct, then the person who is oscillating between Sylph Green and Bone White will eventually reach Snow White with just plums. Their goal would be basically equalizing the three colors at some value like 200/200/200 (Snow White is actually a light grey). Throwing in a few Valfruits will likely help too to get the red up some.

    Also, if my theory is correct, please note that Soot Black (37/35/30) is NOT the darkest color in the game. Ink Blue (22/26/34), Deepwood Green (25/36/28), and Kobold Brown (42/28/23) are darker, but less balanced. If you're trying to go from Ink Blue to Soot Black, you can deepen Red and Green, or you can lighten Blue a tiny bit. For Deepwood Green, you'd want to either deepen Red and Blue, or lighten Green a small amount. Same with Kobold Brown - either lighten the Red or darken the Blue and Green. If you darken just one color, or darken all three colors, you're more likely to wind up with another one of these three dark colors (or other dark colors if your balance is different) than with Soot Black.

    I can confirm this to be false.
