You know, I don't have any fancy math, but I did talk to a guy with Soot Black (that qualifies me to chime in right?) In order to get Soot Black he kept feeding deepening fruits, never lightening fruits.

I tried giving my chocobo only Doman Plumes until the new feathers message appeared once, then stop and wait for 6 hours. This is what I got:
Desert Yellow + 4 Doman Plumes = Lime Green
Lime green + 1 Doman Plume = Sylph Green (weirdly enough, Sylph Green should have more red than Lime Green)
Sylph Green + 7 Doman Plumes = Celeste Green
I read that someone else got Celeste Green with 28 Doman Plumes, while I used in total just 12 of them, maybe it has something to do with the fact that I waited for each step... or maybe it's just RNG.
Anyway, my final goal is turquoise green, do you think I should continue with the doman plumes or try something else?

Maybe it will help you as a reference point.
OK so I didn't wait and I knew I went into the wrong direction with the food lolol
Soo I'm back at coral pink and I just had to break out the note pad and mathematically plot what I needed to do so that I can reach Soot Black. SO....
From Coral Pink I did -- Pear, Berries, Plums x7 (new feather messages) Stable in good condition Also in the same 6 hours I did --- Pear, Apple, Berries x7
basically I did the first series so that I could drop red down and keep blue and green stable. Then once I thought it red was in range, I brought them all down evenly.
Time will tell but I work all day so.
My 2nd chocobo was at Ochu Green. SO I used a similar method above to lower green down while keeping the others stable.
So I did -- Valifruit, Apples, Berries (3/3/3) (new feather messages for all of them)
and then Pear, Apple, Berries 4/4/4 (new feather messages for all 4 as well)
Im excited because I REALLY think I have it this time.

Yesterday I did 4 Apples, 4 Berries and 4 Pears (Aiming for Dalamud Red). I got 8 new feathers messages while feeding. When I checked after the 6 hours, I got no cutscene and colour stayed the same... gutted. I must of managed to cancel each other out.
I decided that I wanted to play with my chocobo's color some more so from her color of Lavender Purple I gave 2 berries with the second one giving the feather message and the result was Raptor Blue.

I am starting to think it's a bit different then we originally thought. I gave mine plums until it gave the feathers message waited. It turned sylph green. I did the same thing again and it turned bone white. Did the same thing again and it went back to sylph green. Did it one more time to get bone white.
Current theory is there is only so many colors per feather change. For example 1 feather change using plums will only give you bone white and sylph green. If you do two feather changes in one feeding session it might put you into another color selection.
I did not continue the pattern I gave it some berries and it turned Celestial Green from Sylph green. This was only one feather growth. I gave more berries this morning until it gave the message. We will see what the next color is.

I am sure its possible. I just found it odd that I was able to flip between the two colors multiple time using the same fruit. They are both on the opposite side of the scale to boot.
Would you feed them all at the same time or feed the first ones and wait six hours then feed the next set?
