It's very confusing but it actually does work as R+ means higher number, not lower. It seems to work like light in the end, where more colors go white (closer to 255) and closer to 0 means less saturation, so black. I realized this when adding apples hoping to "increase" to 0 but it actually shot to 80 from 25.
