It only means your chocobo will change color from what he is currently. First one is somewhat useful, next ones are meaningless.
    Please explain.
Because my bird actually skipped several colors by following the repeated proc, process.
I initially went from default to Coral Pink and managed to stir that to Sunset Orange in only two feed sessions.
Meanwhile, others who only do the 1 proc per session rule, go from default to either Salmon Pink or Millioncorn Yellow, by using the same fruits I used.

So in my mind, I'd hardly consider it meaningless.
It has more meaning than anything to feed multiple in one session, if you know your target and amount of procs needed to exit a color and enter a new one. Unless I am missing something that you can enlighten me on.

    snip.
Yes the proc message count, the first one. It means you fed your chocobo enough to change its color. Next proc message just mean it'll still change from current color. It does not necessarily mean the feeding forced another change of color. It can but it's not a given.

Let's say you feed Apples :
    1/ 2/ no proc
    3/ 4/ 5/ proc

3 made your chocobo pass the treshold to change color.
But 1 and 2 contributed to that.
4 and 5 had a proc because 3 made it change already. Maybe they made you skip another color, maybe not : info has no value

So, it's not use to count proc messages if you don't stop feeding and wait each time you get one. A valid data gathering would be :
    - fed 5 apples until proc
    - waited 6 hours got color X
    - fed X apples until proc
    - waited 6 hours and got color Y

But noone would be that patient ^^
