Any advice for someone who's trying to get from Royal Blue [34][42][96] to Grape [52][36][54]? =)

So, you need R++, G+, and B---. Try Apple + Pear + Pineapple in a 3:2:1 ratio until you get the message, then see where you are? That should get you in the direction you want. Maybe do 3:2:1, then if you get a (new feathers) message on the 6th feed (ignore any from feeds 1-5), stop and see what you get. Otherwise, do a few more in roughly those proportions until you do get the message.

My theory is that the message means your color will change. So, if you fed him one apple and got the message, sure, your color will change, but it's extremely unlikely that it'll jump right to Grape. If you give one of each and get the message on the last one, you might get to where you want to go, or you might not be. If you get the "New Feathers" message on one hit and do not get it on the next, then (if I'm right) you've gone back to Royal Blue. Possible if like, the Pear hits only Red, lowering it, and the Pineapple hits only Red, raising it. But, a combination of those there fruits should trend toward the values you're looking for.

Again, as others have said, this isn't an exact science. There's a large RNG component. You can mitigate it by taking smaller steps, but never end on a feed that doesn't give a message, because you won't see a change if you do.
