I haven't even started on my chocobo so it is standard color atm. My desired color is Soot black so I was wondering what would you suggest I feed to get that color? I previous poster said he was able to get soot black from Loam brown (which I got from the google doc spreadsheet) and I was thinking of following his footsteps since he was the world first soot black I believe.
Having the FC garden will help you greatly to save a bit of Gil while you tweak your Chocobo's plumage. I would recommend you buy one of every seed type (all six) and fertilize them with some Grade3 Shroud soil (if you have a miner) for some high yield to play around with.

I assume you haven't fed anything to your Chocobo to change his initial plumage from Desert Yellow. That would start with Very High REDs, High GREENs, and low BLUEs.

So to start, you're going to want to drastically lower those GREENs and REDs using BLUE DEEPEN'ers (O'Ghomoro Berry). This will have the adverse effect of raising your BLUEs, however getting all three colors around the same value will make the voyage to Soot Black a little easier. If you add in a few apples and pears into the mix, it should slow down your BLUEs from getting too high in the process.

I would try this for my initial feeding:

    x12 O'Ghomoro Berry
    x6 Mamook Pear
    x6 Xelphatol Apple

At the very least, this will put you much closer to your goal, then we can decide what to feed him to direct this new color toward your desired color of Soot Black.

Yes I currently have one of each seen in the garden all with Grade 3 Shroud soil. They will soon be harvestable and that's when I want to go. For initial feeading do you mean all those 3 at once? or like feed berrys first, wait a bit then mamook, or do you do 1 by one? Sorry havnt even touched the feeding of fear of screwing it up

You want to feed him everything all at once for this first feed cycle. After feeding all the fruit above, wait for the plumage change to occur in six hours.
While feeding him the fruit, you should see at least one "feathers have changed" message (though more is definitely likely).

Color Mapping Project has some possible pathways to getting the colors you want. I'm working to gather data and fill in all the missing parts.

I'm going with occam's razor regarding the chocobo coloring. It's far simpler to assume it uses the usual tactics of HQ procs/ Good and Excellent/Failure methods. The flaw of the system right now is that you see "growing new feathers" after each feeding following the 1st message received (unless you switch snacks, and then begins again)- so that means you have absolutely no idea which ones "proc" or "fail". I don't think SE has gone to the trouble of tracking past feedings/rgb changes to each and every chocobo in existence. With all things, though, I could be wrong.

Ok so I feed those 3 items like you said and got the new plumage message every time, Time to wait 6 hrs and see. I will post back to see what color I get and hopefully you could help me out again and point me in the right direction, really confused with the whole color theory at this point since everyone pretty much has their on idea on it.
