But if I'm not mistaken, the Berries deepen Blue hues while the Pineapples lighten them.
Wouldn't I negate the effect those 5 Berries would give me with 5 of those Pineapples?

Basically if you look at the RGB value as three numbers like so: [R, G, B], the current theory is that the effects actually work like this:

LIGHTEN BLUE: [=, =, +B]
DEEPEN BLUE : [-R, -G, =]

LIGHTEN RED: [+R, =, =]
DEEPEN RED : [=, -G, -B]

LIGHTEN GREEN: [=, +G, =]
DEEPEN GREEN : [-R, =, -B]

Thus, to bring out blue, you have to use both the Lighten and Deepen fruits.

This theory seems to make the most sense so far given results people have been getting.

I have fed 22 berries (deepen blue) and 7 pears (deepen green)... based on the RGB values for the default Desert Yellow and this, I suspect I'll end up with a shade of blue.

Results in ~ 2 hrs. I will post when I see it.


Based on this, people going for the coveted black and white chocobos should spam 2 of the dark fruits (deepening) for black and all 3 light fruits (lightening) for white (mainly blue and green, only a little of the red).

I'm pretty sure this is incorrect from what I've observed. What I expect is something more like:

LIGHTEN BLUE: [++R, ++G, -B] (washes out the blue)
DEEPEN BLUE : [--R, --G, +B] (makes the blue more prominent)

LIGHTEN RED: [-R, ++G, ++B] (washes out the red)
DEEPEN RED : [+R, --G, --B] (makes the red more prominent)

LIGHTEN GREEN: [++R, -G, ++B] (washes out the green)
DEEPEN GREEN : [--R, +G, --B] (makes the green more prominent)

Also, it looks like the change is at least somewhat dependent on the current value. Deepening Blue when Blue is really low seems to increase it a fair amount, but Deepening Red when it's already extremely high seems to do little to nothing to it.

My belief is that the chocobos have an internal RGB value that the snacks modify. The color we get is the closest dye color that the game can match to the actual internal RGB value. This means that two chocobos could have the same color, but very different internal values, so future changes affect the two differently.

So, there is no R:0, G:255, B:0 color in the dye database. If you managed to get this internal value, I'd expect to see something like Cactaur Green. Cactaur Green is actually R:94, G:123, B:58, but it's the dye with the most Green relative to Red and Blue. Another possibility is Adamantoise Green, which also has more green than red or blue, but the red and blue are more equal. However, that's only R:88, G:110, B:81 - the green is hardly that much higher than the red or blue.

This is, of course, just a theory.
