With the release of 2.4 and Rogue/Ninja quickly approaching, I think one of the biggest concerns from the community is the anticipated monstrous queue times in the Duty Finder as everyone tries to level the new class and the already short supply of tanks and healers becomes even shorter. It seems like Yoshi-P has acknowledged that this is expected to be a major concern, but didn’t really address if the dev team had plans to take any steps to help alleviate the problem. That got me thinking.
How about an achievement reward similar to the current mount rewards for tanks, but awarded for completing a certain number of low level roulettes. I would not just open this to tanks, but to healers as well. The reward I had in mind is something that I think people would strive to achieve, a really cool looking and unique weapon for each tank and healer job to be used for glamour purposes.
I would also make this achievement time sensitive as to motivate healers and tanks to do the low level roulette during the initial rush of people trying to level the new DPS class/job. Perhaps complete 100 roulettes with a cutoff date coinciding with the release of 2.5. You could return the favor to DPS jobs when new tank and healer jobs are released and offer them the achievement rewards for the respective DPS jobs. You could also reopen the achievements for a certain amount of time each time you release future classes, perhaps offering new tiers and new vanity weapons for those who completed the previous achievements.
I really think a system like this would help reduce queue times. Even if it only shaves 5-10 minutes off a 30-45 minute wait, it will be an improvement over just saying, “We know queue times will be long. Sorry but you’ll just have to deal with it.”
