I'm guessing it has something to do with that glow behind you, it's probably the effect of the gate causing it in my opinion. Very funky lol.

Daaaaaaamn! Vahn's screenshot looks awesome! Made me instantly think of a movie caption or poster. (wtf is Odin doing there j/k)
Another round with great, sexy or creative entries. I try to vary my screenshots from round to round. I haven't posted a good close-up of Ron at all. So I went with a good one this round. I only wish I was a second earlier to snap that screenshot. That hand might become my downfall lol. I was hoping to make it look like Ron was beckoning the viewer with his hand.

About screenshot advice, I pointed this out in an earlier post. But it's a tough choice to choose between close-up or a more global scenic shot. Especially for the tall races. And in my case, I have the problem of Ron's eye pupils becoming hard to see from a certain distance.

Honestly though, everyone should just have fun with this. I'm obviously trying to get good screenshots but I just take a few steps back when I notice I'm stressing.

Why let the faceless masses bother you? It's like any time you put something of your creation in front of the public--some people are going to like it, some people won't, and most people won't be helpful. Appropriate what is constructive and discard what's not. This is entirely subjective. You liked the pictures, that's why you picked them. There's no point in letting others dictate your aesthetic. Hold your head up and walk through the shit. Let the worthless critics mire in their own filth.

Thanks for all the positive comments on my snow-themed pic guys i can feel the feels :')

Another strong round - especially considering the limitations. Was so difficult getting decent shots here and i was lucky enough to enter with friends who didn't mind me spamming screenshots along the way! So hard only picking 5 >.< Good luck everyone, you're all winners in my eyes ;3

Aaaan here's a couple i took, hadn't narrowed down which one i was going to submit so i'll post them both :P (there's a 3rd i quite liked, too, may post it if people are interested/care? lol).

Nevertheless, I kind of get where you're coming from and I had similar situation with the Screenshots you guys made for Round 2, just that I'm on the side of the voters and my opinion seemed to vastly differ from other voters, which didn't even wrote why they voted for specific screenshots or not.

I'm not going to go to much into detail here to avoid creating a bad vibe... it just seemed to me, that screens that weren't that good overall, still managed to get a ton of votes, just because the character looks cute or the pose was great.

While it is true, that this contest is called "Eorzeas Next Topmodel" and the focus should be on the character when voting, the restrictions within this fun contest are not as harsh as they would be in a real model show, and all of the participants got assignments in which they are to create a specific mood/feel/impression with the scenery/outfit they chose or they had to use and make use of expressions or poses to underline the feel of those pictures.

Considering all these aspects and how they affect the overall impression of the pictures, the voters can't and shouldn't go for the "Ah well, this character looks sooo good, I guess I'll just vote for it" approach, since this only covers one of the aspects that make up those pictures at most (Applies to the judges as well since I get this same feeling from them sometimes).

I personally find it really disrespecting towards the participants that actually had really great ideas or great pictures, that they don't get the recognition for the hard work put into their pictures that they deserve, while other participants, that seem to have not put that much work or thought into their picture, get the most recognition for their "efforts".

    *rant off*

I'm probably alone with this kind of opinion so I'll gladly take any kind of enlightment on my little problem on why I feel so diffrently about voting for pictures~ :3

Opinions are one of those things that can vary wildly between people simply because of perspective. Personally? I am an artist with training to recognize things like balance and weight, and the qualities I value in composition may differ from someone with another background. I'm similar to you in that I put composition before everything else, but not everyone does, and at the end of the day, I think that's okay. Part of involving public opinion also means involving different values, and there's no standardization here.

That said, there is a good way to critique, and a bad way, and precious few are familiar with the former. I understand where you're coming from, Val, but I hope you'll take heart and carry on.

On an unrelated note, did anyone else feel HBI wasn't the best for 'scenic' shots? Its paths are all fairly small, and there are a lot of walls and narrow corridors. Being alone and not being able to use minions made this an extremely difficult round for me! Next round, though... Can't wait to see what everyone does with it.

Though I agree, I spent hours taking pictures, queing Hullbreaker, sorting through and asking opinions., however my shots got me listed as a possible eliminate this round because I went with advice from others vs intuition. I just wanted to point out that just because a shot might not seem much work to you, that's not always the case <3

Ah, but will facing north-by-northeast at 2:45 a.m. while the moon is a waning crescent result in a 27% increase in your chances to synthesize HQ mythril ingots!? That is real the question! ~Fernehalwes~

it's all subjective. What i see in a picture may not be what you see. I found myself thinking a picture here and there wasn't so great and couldnt understand why so many liked it, but then, that's just my personal opinion and it doesnt make it right or wrong. it just is.

what's that phrase... You can please some of the people all of the time and all of the people some of the time but you can't please all of the people all of the time

God, I can't find the words I used for my answer on Kyri's post again but I'll try... (messed up my copy/pasting >_>)

I thought, that my wording on the part where I said "that seem to have not put that much work or thought into their picture" would indicate, that I'm not thinking that "not so good pictures" didn't have much work put into them.
I know that even picture that seem bland or not as well thought out with their scenery when compared to other, still can have tons of work and time put into them, so I'm sorry that what I wrote came across like that (but I already expected it kinda...)

Like Kin already said, opinions differ for each and every person.
So a picture that might not seem good to you but you still submitted, might be an enjoyable shot for someone else and the same goes for the other way around.
A picture you've taken and you like really much might not be liked by other people.

Continuing on to what Tinsley said:

This is basically how I thought about some of the pictures and how much votes they earned.
I mean, my opinion is first of all, just one of many and even if I tell people what I'm thinking, they might not agree on that even if I'm explaining my thought process on how I came to think like that.
Like you already said, when you have an opinion, there really is no right or wrong.

It still irritates me, that I've been upset when I've seen the tally for the votes, even though I know that all to well.
