I intend on taking part in one of the future cycles on my alt, so I'll tender my opinion on public judge critiques. I think they should be public. Without artistic critiques visible to the voting public this becomes little more than a popularity contest and who would honestly be interested in following one of those?

Showing 1 photo as a 0 and the other as a 2 when both have almost near identical color schemes and lighting, that doesn't sway to favoritism either?
Look all im saying is that if you are a judge you need to be extra careful about how you judge, and what is said in the judging process. Both photos in question are right next to eachother in the line up as well, so its not all hard to bounce between the 2. I have no personal vested interest in any of the models, I just want to see this done right.

Private critiques would actually be -less- work for me, since I could just copy/paste them into an e-mail My issue with doing so is that more public, detailed critiques from judges was something specifically requested after previous Cycles, so it's something we're trying out this time around. Additionally, I have a fear that by giving critiques in private, we're opening ourselves to accusations of providing better 'coaching' to a particular model. I can foresee the debates over favouritism now!

It is a tricky line to walk, as was mentioned above. Our judges are all learning this process too, so it's expected to see a few hiccups early on. I assure you, Rongi and I are both paying close attention to the feedback and we'll use it to further improve the contest.

As to the comment regarding darker shots...well, it's all subjective, really. One of my favourite movies of all time - The Blues Brothers - got a fairly cold reception from critics when it launched and is now often considered a classic! And as I'd mentioned before, I'm watching the feedback and will be using it to better help guide the judges in providing their reviews in future rounds.

Also, I agree. Preschools are TERRIFYING.

Rongi has already said that Judge D from the men's and women's competition are DIFFERENT PEOPLE. It's not surprising at all that they should have different opinions. I'm not seeing any favoritism at all.

Also if this competition is going to put guidelines in for judging then those guidelines should be broad like "Pictures will be judged according to creativity and the scene chosen". Judges should be allowed and encouraged to judge according to personal preferences. Otherwise every judge is just going to score every picture the same every single time and it'd defeat the purpose completely.

I don't have a problem with the judges comments being public.
Only issue I could see is that someone might choose a picture they like less because they know it will get better scores from a judge

Firstly, CONGRATULATIONS to Rhaya! You rock girl. Your shot and even the ones you didn’t submit are fantastic. Looking forward to the stuff you do in coming rounds.

Also I wanted to thank the judges for taking the time to write out their insight for us. Knowing our strengths and weaknesses can only help us create stronger pictures in the coming rounds.

Lastly, I am totally looking forward to the next round’s theme. It’s probably my favorite of them all and I can’t wait to see all the fun and different things people come up with. So excited for tomorrow!

On the other hand, I found a couple of screenshots on my laptop that some of you may like. The first one was taken randomly while I was messing around with the Share button, and the second one was taken the day before the 2.4 maintenance. Apologies, it's all I could find since I'm too lazy to turn on the PS4.
