Do "older" gamers (age 40+) play this game?

Me and my 30 something friends don't anymore.

It seemed like it would appeal to an older audience... but then it turned into a pointless grind/no good quests/iLevel/team jump rope humping mess. It's pretty, but that's not enough... we like the quests/lore aspect of an mmorpg. Otherwise we would be playing CoD or another multi-player action title.

Lots of mmo, not much rpg.

I don't see why not. There are a few of them around now. Think about it:
-lots of free time
-relatively, it's cheap entertainment
-stable income

The leader of my FC is 43 years old with a wife and two kids and a district manager job at his company. Kinda refreshing to know that even older gamers can appreciate FFXIV. Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy.
