First off, source?
Secondly, what story point could possibly make something undyable? The only gear in the entire game I could see being undyable is GC specific gear. But otherwise EVERYTHING should be fare game.

It's been a while.
As for story points, one example they gave is dungeon gear being undyable due to having a story behind why it is the way it is and why it's there (which I've actually yet to see a story behind these). For lightning, it's a gift for helping her. Artifact, it's a historical piece of equipment used by a immensely famous person to the job it's for.
It would be along the lines of someone becoming pope, then decided they wanted to change all the clothes to neon green. (Though I doubt popes use the exact same clothes, in FFs case, artifact armor is the exact clothing used by the person)

With arguments like that I can just say I found that dungeon gear, took it to the necessary crafting guild and said, "Make me something exactly like this, except green."It's been a while.

Those are all reasons why it would perhaps be in poor taste to dye something, not reasons why it would be impossible. Keeping players from doing something just because most people wouldn't has always struck me as really weak. We're adventurers. We're out here saving the effing world. We're exceptional. If anybody gets to do the things most people wouldn't, it's us, because we're not most people. As for story points, one example they gave is dungeon gear being undyable due to having a story behind why it is the way it is and why it's there (which I've actually yet to see a story behind these). Yea see I agree with snuggles here, cant see what lore/legend whatever makes the gear undyeable, must be some long lost material that doesn't take dye or some dye that cant be washed out.
This entire point Yoshi has about dye and AF for instance being lore locked is ridiculous, there is no point at all in locking it out and then spending effort that could be spent on better content to then make content to unlock it, pointless.
Just let us dye gear or don't.
