That seems to be current theorycraft consensus - if you read description for each of the "RGB" foods it darkens / ligthens each primary colour so depending on the "bit resolution" for each colour we should be able to achieve wider range of final colours. I'm not sure about that, in German it says the colour of your chocobo goes more into the direction of: red, faint blue, violett, green, blue and yellow. So I would assume that is right that we will have more than 7 colours (seeing as the say that the colour goes int a direction and not just changes), but in german it does not really fit with the rgb principle seeing the names of the colours (of course that could be a Translation error)
