Xbox version of FFXIV?

When is SE going to release the Xbox 360/One version of FFXIV? I have a couple friends who have played FFXI on 360 for a long time and now they want to play FFXIV. Neither of them have a gaming PC so that isn't an option.

Lately SE seems to have pretty good relations with MS since they just announced the next Tomb Raider game will be exclusive on Xbox One.

So is will we be getting Xbox version any time soon?

Did a quick Google check.

Producer and director of the Japanese MMORPG Naoki Yoshida gave Xbox owners a glimmer of hope in a chat with us during the E3 trade show in Los Angeles. Through a Square Enix interpreter, Yoshida told us that the company is in talks with Microsoft over the restrictive Xbox Live rules that currently prevent massively multiplayer games from working across platforms. If successful, the game will be released for, at the very least, the Xbox One.

From the article I found. So IF the article is true and accurate, it's a possibility. Yoshida wants it to happen it appears, it's just a bit of a fight trying to get it to happen.

Basically it rests on MICROSOFT, because they don't want anyone playing with anyone that isn't on their system(s). The only exception that I know of was FFXI, and that was because they were trying to push the 360 in Japan

Shame Square-Enix couldn't push FFXIV with the timed Tomb Raider exclusivity deal they struck.

In a recent interview at Gamescom Yoshi said to please let Microsoft know that people want this.

I think Yoshi-P already gave a pretty good answer about this. It went something along the lines of MS and Sony's new consoles being so new, that they're trying to establish themselves apart from each other (console war, if you will). Right now, it's all about "Experience this content on xbox one only. Experience this content on ps4 only." And so forth. Yoshi-P said that he's thinking that once it dies down a bit and the consoles have had enough time to establish themselves, that MS won't be as reluctant to allow the cross-platform interaction that they're trying to avoid at the moment.

In a recent Gamescon interview held just a few days ago. They asked him about it and he said the dev team is ready to make a port and he'd be happy to release if on the Xbox One. But Microsoft is refusing to let their players connect to the same servers everyone else is using. So even if SE released XIV on the Xbox now, you wouldn't be able to play with your friends anyways.

Yoshi-P has made it clear that letting all players no matter what system their on, play together on the same server is a core part of their vision for the game and refuse to compromise that. He said he's made his case to Microsoft and the ball is litterally in their court now. Alas he doesn't expect they'll change their minds on their policy at least for the next year.

Honestly, I don't see the loss considering the compromises Square would have to make for this to happen. It's been repeated ad nauseaum why Square hasn't gone forth anyway so I shan't repeat it, suffice it to say this is all Microsoft being the jerks they... always have been.

They'd be happy to, but Microsoft doesn't want Xbox players on the same server as PS3/PS4/PC players, and SE doesn't want to split up their playerbase based on console. As previous posters have said, it's in MS's hands.

Basically M$ doesn't want their kids to play with the other cool kids (PC/PS4). So they're punishing their own customers as a way to show people who don't buy their console what's up. I mean, it makes perfect sense! ... Right?
