Just hit level 10 on my thaumaturge and see people mention levelling other classes to get their skills, such as Cure.
Question is when to start levelling alt spec, now?, level 30?
Thanks!

Technically any level is good since cross class skill has no level cap, but since that being said asap.
Well, when you first start you can't actually change to other classes til you reach level 10 in your first class and then complete all your quests for your starting class's Guild to the level 10 one, and then unlock the other classes by going and joining up with them. So that's a good a time as any to try out other classes.
Having access to cure and protect are very useful early on, but it's not necessary to level anything else until lv.30 when you need those classes to access your advanced jobs.
You can grab what classes interest you (including gather and craft classes), but I wouldn't go out of my way to obtain them. You'll be given free airship travel to complete a quest in all the city states at around lv.15. You can simply grab those classes when you make your rounds through then. Level any that you think you can benefit from.
If you are aiming for blackmage, you will want to grab archer and level it to 15 at a minimum.
Should also point out that if your going Black Mage, they can use Physick (the Arcanist cure) but not Cure itself (even though THM can). So it would be better off to cross class that one instead.
I've solo'ed/tanked more FATE bosses than I can remember with that single cross class skill, since you have unlimited MP and share decent Mind through gear throughout the leveling process.
Thanks for the replies
It might be useful to level to 30 and unlock chocobo companion to help level other classes![]()
My Advice:
1. Get to level 30
2. Unlock your Chocobo companion (He will steal some XP of yours but you will kill mobs considerably faster which will speed up XP gain.)
3. Get some basic cross class skills (Cross class skills below level 30)
4. Get to level 50
5. Get the advanced cross class skills (Some cross class skills don't unlock until after level 30)
This way you don't waste too much time getting the advanced cross class skills which you most likely won't use until endgame. Look up whats handy for your class though. I mainly play a WHM and I know speedcasting is an insanely good cross class skill for me. Pretty sure you have some of those as well
One important thing: Cross class skills do NOT have levels. The first slot is always available, second slot at level 10, Third slot level 20, etc. The cross class skills will scale appropriately. This means you can use higher level THM skills as a new Arcanist for example. So be careful in which order you put your cross class skills in the slots. Put your most used cross class skill in the first slot, least used in last. Putting Cure in first slot would be quite a wise idea for a new player![]()
Should also mention that 10/20/30/40/50 are applied to Jobs (with your Job Crystal) - prior to level 30 and having your Job Crystal, IIRC you have one cross class slot every 5 level, up to 10 - so don't be afraid to use them if you happen to unlock your a lot more cross class skills (without your Job Crystal, you tend to have more access to a wider variety of cross class skills to use).
