Ah this start to piss me off now. Now I keep getting this error AGAIN even when shutting every program off and restarting pc.
This blows
Can this be cause by those trojans that was warned by my Bitdefender while installing Patch 1.18?
I did run alot of trojan programs, which found 2, but was also deleted by my Malware Fighter program. But im just worried theres something its not picking up and is my only answer to fully rid my PC of any potential hidden trojan to fully reinstall Windows etc?
Really wish SE's Tech guys could get their rears in gear and help their paying customers with any advice.

Yeah, ive contacted SEs Support on their website without an answer after 4 days now.
I just cant understand what causes this Timed out error. I could log in after the first time i got it working, but when I restarted my PC yesterday, this issues emerged again, but turning my programs off has not helped.
Makes me wonder if i should just cancel my account and resume WoW. I really like FFXIV even after just 3 weeks of being a subscriber, but all these errors and issues I just dont feel its worth it sadly.
Have you tried reinstalling it? I haven't tried it yet cause its a long and tedious process. Not only do I get that error but when I do play the game and log out it just stays at a black screen and I have to open the task manager and end the task or force restart my computer.
"Believe in yourself.
Not you, who believes in me. Not me, who believes in you. Believe in you, who believes in yourself!"
Ive reinstalled it 2 times now. Not working at all. No idea why it wont go past that Checking Version window since i turn off firewalls, reset router etc.
Just wonder if theres a trojan virus that my AV program isnt picking up that hinders me from logging in
I think ive finally located my problem at least. Usually ive only turned the Real time AV protection off on my Bitdefender 2011, but the instant I uninstalled the Bitdefender AV and now use only Windows Defender + Windows Firewall. My game launched normally.
I would suggest you try uninstalling your AVG antivirus and try then. Hope that helps. It seems to work for me at least.
I am having the same Issue as well, but it is not as easy to solve with antivirus and firewall being shut off. I only use Windows firewall and Microsoft Security Essentials, I have disabled the firewall and also included it in the exceptions for all products of ffxiv(ffboot/ffgame/fflogin). I too am unable to get it to launch unless I restart my pc due to "Timed out while waiting for Final Fantasy XIV to shut down" at least it is launching for now, when I do that. I run a very lean system with no more than 25 processes running on bootup. with ffxiv, that is 26 processes...
I don't keep unecessary junk on my system as I use it only for work and ffxi/ffxiv. It seems like some kind of error relating to how you last shut down ffxiv. admittedly, I've only once got it to shut down correctly. It seems typical that square would include some random check to see if the game was exited properly. how retarded. however I find it interesting that after playing I shut down this system overnight, and boot it up in the day for work, then try to launch ffxiv after work and get this error in which im forced to restart before launching. Is it some sort of super short timeout between the updater->ffxivlogin launching that when your system builds some paging from running all day it doesn't access it fast enough until a reboot is done? if so, that is also retarded.
I've also posted on Lacard's thread about having exactly his issues, but for me it wasn't after the latest patch its been the same since installation, I'm using Avast!, have tried disabling all security on my computer to no avail. I will try uninstalling avast and let you know how it goes![]()
I would suggest Microsoft Security Essentials for antivirus. I know a lot of people would be wary of trusting MS with security stuff, but I have found that MSE is extremely proficient catching viruses and trojans. Most importantly, it does not have this issue with needing to be disabled, etc. when installing programs (its integration with Windows is impressive).I think ive finally located my problem at least.
