Timed out error while trying to start game

When I click the Icon to start FFXIV, i get the Checking Version window, which almost instantly pops up with an error warning:

Timed out while waiting for Final Fantasy XIV to shut down.

What issues can cause this error to happen? Was working fine yesterday

I have the same issue currently. I also posted in the forums. Did this just start with the new patch?

Yes this issue occured shortly after downloading that small update patch. I have tried reinstalling the whole game, but the first message I get when trying to launch the game is that annoying Timed out while shutting down FFXIV.

This is the tech support thread, where are you tech guys hiding??? This is really annoying me now. I want to play, cause I pay to do so.

This is weird. After 2 days messing around. I have even put everything regarding FFXIV to be allowed on Bitdefender 2011 Firewall etc.

Then I tried starting the game with AV and Firewall from Bitdefender offline, Advanced Systemcare 4 and Malware Fighter off as well. And finally im seeing the login screen. The I exit that window, and I put every program back online, and the Timed out problem is no more. At least for now

I can get it to work once for everytime I restart my computer. Have you tried that? Once I restart my computer I can get in game and sometimes when I log off the game I have trouble with a black screen and I have to force restart. But at least I can play! I'm thinking this may be an issue when we updated to patch 1.18.

No, restarting my PC didnt work at all. Only when i turned all my AV and malware scanners offline while trying to start the game is when I managed to finally start the game.

My game starts every time now, regardless if I have been online playing and closed it.

How did you turn everything off? I have AVG and windows firewall. I think thats it. I tried turning off my firewall but no luck.

Does AVG have a firewall as well in its program? Do you know what other programs you have in your startup sequence when you boot up your PC.

Overall I'm not sure. I installed windows xp from scratch so when it comes to Virus protection all I have is AVG. But when I turned AVG as well as my firewall, I still had the same problem booting FFXIV.
