Reading the forums the past couple days, and even thinking back to WoW after watching the new cinematic trailer, I got to thinking about how some stuff went one way or the other. I'm not sure if you would call this a complaint thread, or maybe suggestions or even constructive criticism, but it's some stuff that I think could have been done better, or still has potential to improve.
Currencies
Way back in the 1.0 you earned guild marks for each guild you were a member of. You could use those marks to buy skills, spells, traits and that kind of stuff. I think a guild mark system has tons of potential going into the expansion, it wouldn't have to be tied to cities, like Curious George could handle the warriors, or they could put in an assistant for him. You could do dailies for the NPCs, and gain marks, and the marks could be used to buy job specific glamour gear, and even job specific materia(I think a materia revamp is in order). They could make them where you can only have one job specific materia equipped at one time, and they could alter/enhance job specific abilities.
Beasmen currencies is the other thing I think they should add. The adventurers are the ones that earn the trust of specific beastmen, they aren't welcome in the cities, so it doesn't make sense they have access to and choose to use gil as their currency.
It could easily be added to the currency tab, it could be dropped by beastmen that you kill, rewarded by quests, and it would be used to buy from their merchants.
Materia
I think this should be treated sort of like jewelcrafting from WoW, each piece of gear has slots, even dropped dungeon gear, the difference being that crafted gear can be overmelded, dungeon/raid gear can't. Gear ilvl 50 and above the weapons could have a slot that only holds the job specific materia I mentioned above.
Free Companies
I think this is where they skimped the most and where they have so much potential. Besides the obvious stuff like guestbooks, bulletin board, in game calendar, I think we should have FC achievements, there should be a weekly FC challenge log that rewards FC credits, as well as gil that goes directly to the FC chest. We also need more ways to show off our FCs, we need banners with our crests we can hang up inside, maybe rugs, chocobo barding that shows off our crests, and you can just go from there. If you have seen pictures of Yoshi in his office, he has lots of XIV swag around and on the walls, so surely he should be able to understand this.
Crafting
I don't see much wrong with the crafting system, but I do think they made it way too easy to level, like being able to go from 1-50 by simply buying stuff off the market boards and never actually crafting anything. I think it should be at least somewhat useful at end game, it doesn't seem right that we are discovering all this old allegan technology and our cafters aren't leaning anything from it.
Gear
I really don't like the direction they are going with equipment right now. Things like set bonuses, or additional effects added to gear could give some more options in gearing, I'm not a fan at all in the ilvl rules them all system they have going. I know there will always be a BiS set, but I think more choices in gear could add a lot to the game right now. Each tier I think should have the raid set, the token set, and a job specific set (this could come from the guild marks) with the token set and the job set could be upgraded to the ilvl of the raid set. Also adding in some more stats like TP regen, or haste. I think haste could be used to speed up auto attacks, and the speed that HoTs and DoTs tic, so if you get enough haste, you can force an extra tic into that regen or thunder.
Chocobos
They have done quite a bit already, but simply put until you can que with your chocobo out, the system will seem broken. I'm not sure how difficult it would be to put as a que as solo button on the duty finder window, but it seems like something they could get figured out over the course of a year.
These are just a few of my thoughts, they aren't huge ideas like revamping the armory system, but I think small things like this can go along way with games like this. I'm not a programmer or designer, just a fan and a gamer who had a couple ideas.
