English and Japanese Title differences

Heya, I read a few hours ago that the titlename from the T9 Savage achievement differ and checked it myself because of that, while on the english client it is Domitor/Domitrix, it is called The Conqueror on the Jp client. Also after going through the titles and their respective achievements, I saw that they differ on most titles such as the one for the first Paladin achievement, where it's the Meat Shield in english and White Knight in japanese.

My question now is why would you change such nice titlenames to something like that, and could you maybe change some of them back to their original name please?

Well, I can't say for the T9 achievement, but the title 'The Meat Shield' does make sense in context, given this is another informal name for a tank class, where as the term 'White Knight' has somewhat negative connotations in English speaking countries, being net speak for someone on a message board who plays devil's advocate and defends something that isn't popular after all (not to mention it makes more sense in the JP client than the NA/EU client, given the fact the PLD Job is called 'Knight' in Japan).

Ferne has a love for pop-culture too so a lot of the English achievement titles reflect that as well, as he mentioned this in another thread. Personally I think the English titles are better than the (translated) JP ones, but that's just me.

Hmmm~ I never heard of that about the term 'White Knight', for me a 'White Knight' was always a virtous knight who protects people from harm, and that makes as much sense as 'The Meat Shield' if not even a bit more (it also sounds nicer if you ask me). And yeah while it's true that it's in the JP client called 'Knight', but a paladin is just a higher form of a knight if I remember correctly, so it would still be correct, but yeah it seems like a region-like thing with your explanation.

Well I also like most of the english titles more then the japanese ones except those two, that's why I asked for the reason in the first place and for a change in the second place since it won't happen anyway unless enough people support this, which seems somewhat unlikely with your explanation. Thanks though for telling me that I really didn't know about that connotation.

They are different because those phrases have different meanings or no meaning at all in other cultures. Japan likely doesn't have a slang equivalent of "meat shield". Anyone one know what the titles are in german and french?

The Dominator is Le Dominateur/La Dominatrice (see) in French and Dominator/Dominatrix (see) in German.
The Meat Shield is Le Bouclier humain (The Human Shield, see) in French and der lebende Schild (The Living Shield according to Google translate, see) in German.
You can easily find all the translations in the Lodestone database by just changing the language, i.e. changing the na/eu into fr/de/jp in the url :-).

I wonder what are the negative connotation. I would always have imagined the White Knight (saving the princess, helping the people) as the hero, opposed to the Black Night as the villain (dangerous, mercyless, tyrant) in a story.
