ATMA - Second set drop rate?

When I was doing Atma farming for my BLM a couple of months back, I was lucky if I got one Atma shard in 4 hours worth of FATES. It took several weeks to complete it. This week, I decided to go for my Bard Atma, and by day 3, I already had 6 Shards. I never had to grind more than an hour to get an Atma.

Is there a chance the drop rates become more forgiving after you've completed your first Atma? What's everyone else's experience with this?

It's the same, you're just luckier this time around.

Yup definitely still random.. got my first 4 within 1-2 hrs each but spent 10+ hrs trying to get my 5th before giving up on atma.

Got two in 1 hour, the rest averaged 4.5 hours each. But they're from FATEs so 4.5 hours felt like 20 hours average.... (killing low level monsters with 20 other level 50 players while one level 5 player just stares dumbfounded.. XD)

I was thinking that same thing last night while in a party in Thanalan grinding atma.
How much that must suck for the level 5 guys, out there grinding away for that next early quest, all sudden here comes our group on all mounts of all kind, hop off burn the fate hop on and ride off into the horizon.

i hated atma groups when i first started levelling. they took all the kills and i got no experience from the fate, it made leveling that much harder. but, after i played more and i realized that they werent being dicks and killing everything just to mess with the new players, that hate went away pretty fast.

Had a lovely discussion like this in the Central Shroud the other day. Dude made the assumption that we trying to get exp and that level 5 FATEs gave the same rewards as high level ones. No matter how much we explained to him that he was incorrect, (that the rewards sucked, that we'd rather farm Coerthas, that it was Yoshi-P's fault) he would not lay off.

I kinda felt bad for him as it went on, because he just invited our ridicule, but he did have a legitimate point (that he ruined by starting out with a temper tantrum) that we were sapping exp from him. The plan to make starting areas more active seems to have backfired. :x
