Name change options are available in almost every other mmo service,
Clean slate or not I think people running around with female names as male characters because of a small vial they drank the night before is too damn funny...
Also people want to change for naming conventions, or for the fact that they didn't really think their name through at creation and lets face it, the first few days was a mess when the servers went live, I think names for most people where just whatever popped in their minds atm and were more concerned about just getting into the darn game.

Also don't forget the fact you can't take any poll on this forum seriously because of the large number of players that avoid here like the plague because of the headaches you get just from reading half the ideas posted here. This is terribly biased however.
Only people with a distinct interest in name changes will view the topic, and even fewer of the opponents will bother to vote against it.
It will give nothing but a skewed perspective of what people truly want.
I too voted no. People that created their character with an insulting, hurtful or simply dumb name under the pretense that they wouldnt enjoy the game anyhow and were just here to be a pain-in-the-butt to actual players, yet who now suddenly want to play this game for real, arent deserving of a name change. There's too much griefing been done for people to simply escape their responsibilities and karma. It's sad the bad apples ruined it for the few people who legitimately want the name change, but there's no way to tell. The only real way to be sure is to simply not allow this.

I also posted this comment on the poll site, but I might as well post this here as well... I forgot about people using fantasia to change race as well and that also being an issue; edited for that reason.
There are several reasons for name changes to be legitimately added to the game.
1. With Fantasia potions being able to change race and genders and not names, this causes quite a few people to not bother with the service, as it is aggravating for people who would otherwise want to change their race or gender, but can't because their name is too race or gender specific.
2. With the addition of weddings at this point in the game, where people have spent the last year leveling and gearing a character, simply creating a new character is not a good option. This is rather a personal issue for me, though I know I mustn't be the only one, but when I made my character over a year ago, I did not know that weddings would be added to the game, so I made a male character based on a movie character/actor that I like. Now that weddings are being added, I would much rather marry as a female, and unless I am able to change my name, I will never use the wedding services that are to be provided in the future.
3. Dresses - Another feature that was added later in the game.
4. It will be a huge money generator. Really, Square, there's no reason a modern MMO should not have this as a paid service.
I have been waiting for over 7 months now to hear anything new about a name change service. It seems, however, that this option is something Square is barely taking a serious look at, and I'm losing patience and my love for this game, as I know I won't fully be able to enjoy the features coming in the future.
You seriously wont enjoy the game because you can't change your character's name? You realize there is a way to change your name? I've done it before, and yes it may cost you $36 and you will be away from your friends for like 3 days, but if you really hate your name that much, why not just do that? SE has a lot of other crap to deal with so I understand why they haven't taken a serious look at adding a name change feature (though I hope they do), but it doesn't mean you're stuck with a crappy name right now. If you can suck it up and dish out the money and stick it out in an unfamiliar server for 3 days, then I strongly suggest you do that.I have been waiting for over 7 months now to hear anything new about a name change service. I cannot seriously enjoy the game the way I would like because I am not the gender I would like—a sad side effect of not being able to change my name. I will not fork over $36 because I shouldn't have to do this round about way of getting a name change. My name isn't crappy at all, I actually like it, it's not being able to fully enjoy all that is to come that is the real issue. And that they haven't said anything in this long a time IS a huge issue. If you support this sort of thing, then support it. Telling people who have a strong opinion about it to "suck it up" is not really giving good support to the issue. I'm just trying to draw some attention to this before another half a year (if not more) passes with no response. You seriously wont enjoy the game because you can't change your character's name? If the friendlist mechanics were different I would ay yes.
Infact, I even say yes now because D-Bags will still be found out they are D-bags and re-black listed.
Square, can we have an OCE fanfest now?
I don't see why not. Players should have this freedom, especially considering this is a pay to play game. There are also instances where players are stalked and harassed and a name change might just be a solution to this.
If we get "Fantasia Potions" and we're playing a male or female character with a same gender sound name. I believe there is no excuse for us to not receive a name change with those "Fantasia Potions" as it is. Luckily my name "Ene" isn't gender dominant as other names, like Sui. I voted yes.
The only reason what I would consider the development team worried about such action is conflicting people name changing and to get by people who blacklisted them. Though If I'm correct, our character is insignificant to their name. They go by I.Ds. Which wouldn't matter if someone changes their name as it will not change their preference or coded I.D, in someones blacklist lol.

I voted yes.
I, like many others, cringe at the thought of my current name...
it was cute at first but now I'd much rather have something a little more personal to myself. There are a lot of Momo's I've been running into on my server lately as well![]()
