    Crash on Teleport

Windows 7 updated yesterday and ever since, I'm getting random crashes on teleports. Sometimes I get "FFXIV has encountered an unhandled exception." Sometimes my game just drops to 1 fps and then crashes. Any suggestions?

I can almost certainly state the issue - the Radeon R9 290. It's a known problem whereby over time you start to drop frames, then it stutters in areas where lots of action is occurring (eg hunts, cities). Finally it will crash, usually when changing zones.

It's been around for a while but why nothing is being done is unknown. I have 2 R9 290 in crossfire and it's so bad that I had to disable one just to play. I find that if I stick to gathering then I can play all day but once I start fighting, crafting or spend too long near hunt zergs it all crashes. It's fine after restarting which leads to the common line of thought that it's a memory leak in the software. No updating of drivers or anything works. It's a problem with ATi & the game.

I have read of workarounds but none have worked for me so far. Next step is to downgrade the in game graphics settings as some people suggest. If SE had stuck to their word and released a DX11 version at the same time as the PS4 version it may have been fixed. Right now it's just something to suffer with.

UPDATE: I've found a solution that works for me! In the graphics settings turn on 1) Use Low-detail models on distant objects & 2) Cache LOD data only when necessary (LOD Streaming). Distant objects won't be as pretty and you won't see players or NPC at LONG distance but you will still see enemies. I've just played for about 18hrs with NO PROBLEMS including in a Hunt and in the crazy Moonfire Faire events.

    Hope it works for you!
