most likely it's an issue along your route to the patch mirror servers. Level3 (a VERY popular Tier1 Peering partner) has been having issues with packet loss and dropped connections for a while now. Been complaining about it to my ISP (TWC). This past week, they've changed my route 3 times (of course, twice while I was in an instance and I had to wait for my modem to reboot... thankfully people waited for me to return). I'm now with TATA and though the latency is up a bit (got spoiled when they paired me with PSINet part of Cogent back in June and had <60ms latency), at least it seems to be stable for the most part now.

Run some tracerts to some of these addresses to see if there is any erratic behavior along the way:

    neolobby01.ffxiv.com
    neolobby02.ffxiv.com
    neolobby03.ffxiv.com
    neolobby04.ffxiv.com

    patch-gamever.ffxiv.com
    23.54.187.27
    23.0.160.75
    24.143.200.227

Those first 4 are servers in Canada and Japan that are embedded in the executables. The last 4 are a few of the addresses I've tracked as being in use during version check and/or patch downloads this year.

Just found out the ISP (Speedy) has a problem in my city.

I'm quite certain since I can't open the Lodestone properly, can't even open http://www.finalfantasyxiv.com/ (The connection was reset),
meaning the connection must be failed somehow and it related to the Launcher, that's why it won't open.

Need to wait until they fix the network.
