Only one of those suggestions involved laundry.
Crafting and gathering are great examples of things you can do while waiting for fates.
Fates aren't broken. Tying Animus books and Daily Marks to them is. Seriously, you can wait around for a book fate for two hours, need to go somewhere, come back and miss it by seconds, then have to wait again only to be pulled away by something else. Also, TWO RINKY DINKY ALLIED SEALS for waiting around for an hour for a FATE mob to spawn? Why the hell would anyone do that? FATEs are great for leveling, but that's ALL they should be good for.
Yep. I'll take a bunch of ores to make ingots, or materials for food. I'd have to sit in town for a long time to craft anyway (I try to keep 3 retainers full of items on the market at all times) so it at least made my waiting constructive.
