    [Dev] Repair system problems

Annoyance, a gil sink, & a absurd reduction in character performance.

Many of us often come at a conflict of repairs due to the fact whenever it gets depleted it needs to get repaired. If the self proclaimed player with a low crafting skill can't repair it he or she might have to place it on bazaar having the item to get it repaired by a skilled crafter. Of course, this comes across problems of shouting for a repair to speed process up to get the game going. However, what's striking is most crafters might not help at all due to abundance of cost, thus the crafters are in control, and using repair NPC's rendering them useless since it only repair at a maximum of 75%

In addition to crafting, it is tedious and tireless time consuming gathering and remarkably a large basis of items needed just to make one thing to another. It's also a large investment as things stands since crystals are part of the source to making gil and high in demand for synthesis.

Reduction is another problem where if the % it would also effect the performance against fighting, party, or even solo'ing. Players want to fulfill their maximum performance as their job and their abilities in the long run.

    That's my 2 cents, what's yours?

one of the main points of this system is to make it a gil sink, removing gil from the game. This sink is needed otherwise gil will continue to go into the game and not leave making the economy even more broken than an in game economy is in the first place

    I think it's fine.

You're only in the 20's on most jobs, and Pug 33, right? So that means your gear takes pretty cheap dark matter to repair. Stick your repairs up at 2k reward and stand in the middle of the street while you go to the bathroom or make yourself a drink in the kitchen. In a few minutes, someone will have repaired your gear.

The crafters are not in control of the economy or even the "repair market". You merely need to offer a repair reward that is slightly above the cost of the dark matter.

Reduction is another problem where if the % it would also effect the performance against fighting, party, or even solo'ing. Players want to fulfill their maximum performance as their job and their abilities in the long run.
What's this reduction you speak of?

    I can't comment on the annoyance part of your complaint since i havent played since before the new dark matter, however as for your other 2 statements;

I dont see repairing being much of a gil sink right now, unless players are artifically keeping dark matter prices high.
As mentioned above people will repair a lot of items your rank for a few k's, which is very cheap, you just need to stand in an area where theres a good amount of crafters around.
Incidentally the new dark matter repair resources likely increased the amount of (secondary)crafters that carry around repair materials as well.

Damaged items barely suffer from damage taken to durability in my experience, ive only ever had my items been in red a handful of times after all.
It takes quite some time for any item to get red..provided you dont use items a good deal above your rank or not of your favored class. (not sure why anyone would even do that, apart for cosmetic reasons)

    So, any questions? ^_^

The major gil sink people are complaining about is the people who mainly are dying ALOT trying to complete the new dungeons
they dont like having to repair alot cuz it takes time away from their dungeon

and of course the people who just want repairs gone, and dont want it in any form, and cant be reasoned with so they use everything as an excuse

The focus on player driven repairs is, intriguingly enough, the primary issue with the entire system. It's a stick approach to creating dependence on other players instead of the more carrot approach of having players making items that other players need. Also, thanks to the difficulties of leveling DoH classes the number of people who can actually do repairs is limited to the long term players or those who specifically play the game to craft (most long term players stick within their LS while the people who devote themselves specifically to gathering and crafting seem fairly rare).

What they could do to fix it is just make the player repairs more of a convenience than a requirement, which can be achieved by making the NPC repairs 100% and decrease the cost to something like 2 or 3x the cost of a dark matter of the appropriate grade. SE could probably decrease the cost of the dark matter further if they make the materia system an NPC service, thus taking some of the pressure off of repairs as being the primary gil sink, which could likewise decrease the cost of npc repairs based upon the dark matter.

Also, do any crafters enjoy repairing other peoples gear? Unlike making items that can be sold at ones convenience, repairs have to happen on the spot, which means the craftsman in question has to sit around in a city or just be lucky enough to hear someone desperately looking for a fix. Not to mention in the long term once someone is known to be making a business out of repairing gear that individual isn't going to be able to get very far in a city without being asked by several people.

I do actually. Good way to earn some tidbit sp and gil. Some appreciation for it is nice too.

-> But only if the price offered is >NPC price of Dark Matter.

So what is your opinion on the repair system as it is? What do you believe could be improved if anything? It would be nice to hear from someone who has a bit more of a positive take on the system.
