We did actually, they had some preset for you depending on what job you were. Some of them were a bit cheesy but it was cute, we also had a part where we got to say our own little thing.
It wasn't required to macro them but when Square contacted us about after we got approved they recommended it to ensure it went smoothly

As cute as it was - it's wayyy too much bother for something that is essentially fluff content. Not to mention they will actually have to take up GM time from actually performing important GM tasks to officiate a wedding... With a game that had maybe 250k subscribers in its heydey it might have been manageable. This game is a lot bigger and would require a lot more GM time and effort. It just seems like a waste when they could have a couple of scripted events or even let us select someone to officiate (like a FC leader) and not have to tie up SE's live resources or wait until one of them is available.

XI's system required booking because they used a live GM to perform the service. I think it was too complicated a process, although having the live GM was something rather special. I sort of hope there is some sort of barrier that keeps just anyone from marrying for laughs or for the in game goodies. Something that helps filter out players that actually want to go through the process as a symbol of devotion to their partner rather than someone whom wants to marry off two mules to get a free mount.

I imagine both characters would need to be present for the marriage to take place, so they would need to be on different accounts. In this situation, someone who wanted the mount would still do it.

This is another attitude I have found to be wholly unique to FF players - this attitude of "I hope that this system is needlessly convoluted because I don't think other people should get to enjoy it for reason xyz" that doesn't even make any sense. Why does it affect you so much that someone else might get something or that they might want to get married for teh "lulz"? How does that affect you in any way at all? It's a video game for everyone, not just your personal crusade against people you feel are undeserving of whatever you have deemed them unworthy to participate in.

There's a reason I kept saying over and over that SE and the GMs should not be involved and that marriage should be something entirely player-run...

    * The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.

Preeeetty sure the marriage ceremonies will take place in the Sanctum of the Twelve in East Shroud... in which case the online registration is to book the area since it's not instanced. Whether or not a GM will be present... who knows? I find it unlikely.

My point is that bookings and applications shouldn't even be necessary. That goes back to my point on non-involvement. Just implement clothes, foods, consummables and so on. You could tell me that couples that don't want to apply at the aforementioned website can still run their own ceremony, but now we have a distinction between an unofficial wedding and an official wedding in place.

I think the whole Sanctum of the Twelve thing would just be optional for those who really want an immersive experience. So players can book the locale, but for those who don't have the gil/time/care to do so can book other locales, or choose their own personal locale without the required booking/extensive planning. Since we all know players will flood that place regardless and it'll ruin the immersion for the few who actually look forward to that sort of thing.

I'm sure they'd like to implement something to please the role-players while also pleasing those who just play to play. If that makes sense.

I appreciate the support and insight into the subject including the changes they made to the XI wedding, which I wasn't really aware of. I have to believe the system they are planning for us in ARR would not be as convoluted as the original XI process. I do hope we get some more positive details soon.
