So this translation came out the yesterday:

Q: Is there any new information about the eternal bond system?

A: Komoto: Currently, the lead is working as hard as he can, and is in the process of creating cutscenes as well as plans for being able to customize the design of the venue. You'll be able to go on quest together and then hold a ceremony. When the lead spoke to the programmer and designer they asked him if he was really going all out like this. I know Yoshida and the lead have been talking about it a lot and are getting excited, and it's turning into something really big and nice.

Yoshida: Just to reiterate, this is a ceremony by which two characters pledge their devotion to each other in Eorzea.

As this is really extensive system, we are aiming to implement this during the 2.4 series of patches. We are planning to have players apply via the web, and it's the real deal. I hope you are all looking forward to it.

And I'm thrilled with it all except for that part I bolded/italicized. This was something done in XI, you actually had to have a 3rd person (chaperone) make the application for you, I believe, and wait "months" for an in-game ceremony.

I thought this quest was going to be relatively simple and I hope it doesn't end up being something with a lot of annoying road blocks. I've been looking forward to it since it was announced and now we'll have waited over a year for it to be implemented. We should just be able to log in after the patch and quest it up. *sigh* I don't mind a lengthy engaging quest line, but applying through the web sounds like "approval" will be part of it, and more waiting ...

This is pretty cool sounding, I hope the web portion isn't too obnoxious of a step though - that could be a nice place to have a hiccup. I'm curious how they will do "undevotions" lol, especially since there seems to be some game components and possible rewards (shareable mount).

I thought in FFXI they ended up making it an automated process? Like a few years later. Perhaps I remember incorrectly, but it was definitely GM ran initially - certainly made long waiting lists XD.

You are right. They did after so many years down the road change the marriage system to where you just go to one of the NPC's in either 3 cities. Both the bride and groom needed to put the rings on to make it official.
I do remember how bad it was before the change. Back in 2005 it took I think 3 tries before I finally got my app. approved to the date we wanted.
Not that the marriage system means anything to me anymore now a days, I hope for the shake of anyone else who does want to get married in-game, doesn't have to go through all that madness again XD

They did, yes.

This time around they're making special cut-scenes/events.

Curious if SE will revoke a bonded persons duo-mount chocobo if you disvow, or how hard it will be to obtain in the first place.

Yeah, I'm really really hoping that a Rep will pop in and say ~

"Don't worry, JillyBean, the application process will not be complicated or time consuming and you will have your Lala wedding in no time! The system is nothing like XI's system and will not require any special hoops or waiting."

EDIT: Oh I missed your edit. Not sure if the marriage system changed for XI. Hopefully for the better/quicker. Not sure but I did stop playing in 2010.

Wow that sounds pretty intense haha. At least the system won't be too easily abused, like a quick marriage for teleports for a day lol. I do wonder then if you'll reserve an instance and like have a real guest list and everything...
