    Culinarians and housing

I posted this as a question for the Producer Letter, but I'm curious as to what other people think about this idea. Not sure if anyone else has posted this or not, but here goes!
So far, the only max-level crafting class I have is culinarian. And when we bought our first house this last major patch, I felt rather... Useless when it came to making the furniture. That's when the idea dawned on me. I think it would be kinda neat if culinarians could make large feasts that could be set on tables. Ones that could maybe grant their guests or friends food buffs? It would certainly make dinner tables look more full!
Also bowls of fruit for living room tables would be a neat thing too, I think. It would also make culinarians a little interesting to play, giving them fluff items to make that could be tabletop related. :3

I think it sounds great. Mostly I don't go IN our FC house. I teleport outside, take care of the garden, use the chocobo stables if I have an item, and get what I need from the retainer bell and market board nearby. If I could run into the house, and "partake" of some of the food on the table. That would be awesome. Sounds fun and a good immersive idea.

Only question is how would the mechanics work? Would each item you make be added to the table 1 for 1? If 1 person ate it, would it go away? Or are you talking about a new crafting recipe that results in a single "feast" item that gives specific food buffs. The latter seems like it would be the way to go, as there are so many questions with the former (does the food eventually go bad, if it is 1/1 how is that any different that just dropping it in the fc chest, and if it is more than 1/1, that seems like it would be a little overpowered if multiple people could consume the same food item).

Yeah, I was thinking it could be like its own new recipe that would put out an entire feast that could maybe last an hour or two before it disappears(Or maybe until it runs out of charges). As for the buffs it could give, perhaps there could be certain foods you could click on that provide you with spell caster, dps or tank buffs depending on the food you click?

Like; basically a huge spread of different dishes like steak for tanks, soup for casters, pie for gatherers, that sort of thing. ouo

I'd just really like food/drinks of some sort that we are able to lay out and just handwave the fact that it doesn't spoil while sitting out. Most people probably have a dining area or a bar or something in their company house and not having food or drinks or even plates/cups/bottles around looks weird and empty.

FF11 had some nice items like a dessert tray, something like that would fit in well with a living room, meeting room, or guest area. There's already a lot of food models in-game too.

I agree with you as well, I mean if the buffs would be too much then at least just let us set food and stuff on tables. Having a big gathering at a dinner table with my company looks so plain and empty without food. XD

Also candy dishes and trays sounds super neat also, I'd like to be able to make bowls of mints or other assorted sweets!

Hey folks! Just thought I'd share this. This was addressed in the big "Housing Ideas and Feature Requests" thread back in May:

Joking aside, the development team is working to implement this, but they’ll be making it so you can create food as furnishings and it wouldn’t be the food you actually make to eat that is placed on your tables and such.

They are however looking into whether they can add elements where you can eat these objects you place on your table (don’t invite me over…).

Once I receive word on the implementation timing I’ll be sure to share.

With that said, regardless of whether or not the furnishings have a limitation, we’re looking to add a variety of furnishings that you can obtain a buff from by interacting with them, so please let us know your ideas for the types of furnishings and buffs you’d like to see!
That said, I really would like to see some non-interactive culinary decorations as well. It would be nice to have some low level housing crafts that utilize lowland grapes, faerie apples, pamamas (wait, are there even pamamas in XIV?), maybe beeswax or varnish... You know, to make a bowl of fruit...

Hey! Yeah, no problem. That post was buried because that thread is so huge! The only reason I knew about it was because it was being discussed when I made my first post to the forum on that very same page. xD

I really do hope they follow through too!

What would be cool is if you could put a war room in to talk about different raids or what have you and before battle the cook sets out the feast to add buffs and stuff for battle. Sorry my RP nerd is showing

Haha no worries, 50% of the reason I want the food is for RP reasons. I adore RP fluff of any kind, and a war room would be really neat too for military companies! And it would be a great way to introduce the foodbuffs for raid FCs and give raids a reason to go to their house more often.
