Since you mentioned that you have reached Vesper Bay, I assume you have just finished the Gridanian Envoy quest. The next one should be the quest to unlock your first dungeon which is Sastasha. If you are not sure which was your latest main story quest done, you can open your Journal (J) and select the Completed tab, select Main Scenario and look for the one with the highest level.

Making my explanation short, the lodestone link below lists the next few main scenario quests.

Also before you head into Sastasha, be sure you have at least geared up a little.

Grind away to your next guild quest at level 20. Talk to baderon at the drowning wench in limsa. He sends you the fishing yard I believe where you investigate some pirates outside aleport. This unlocks the first dungeon sastasha.

If you plan on staying with lancer...you'll need to pick up marauder and level it to 15, for the dragoon requirement. Marauder guild is in limsa upper deck.

Just to be clear, I was talking about my Lancer alt, who started in Gridania, not my main THM (my avatar) who started in Ul'Dah.

IIRC, characters who start in Gridania pick up the next quest in Ul'dah. (If I'm wrong, then it's Limsa. It's always whichever of the other two cities you visited last during the envoy quest.)

Though where you pick up the next quest (Call of the Sea) varies according to where you started from, it will send you to Limsa, which is where you'll get the Probably Pirates quest that unlocks the first dungeon.

You can visit the two cities in either order. The quest text makes it sound like you have to do one first, but it also says something like "Such and such city is supposed to have their ceremony first, but you never know, it could be delayed," which is the lore explanation for choosing which ceremony/city you see first. lolnope, my memory is failing me.

lol sorry I don't know how to explain to someone what to do in an MMO. Do whatever you'd like.

You should be able to find the next quest in your journal as well. Hotkey "J" on PC. I've lost the main story quest before (around 25 there's not really any clue where you should head next, IIRC), so it's helped me before.

I've gotten my Lancer to lvl. 16, been made Gridania's envoy and got the airship pass, visited the other two cities to confer with their leaders, and I've even been to Vesper bay to learn how to dye my gear. So now what do I do?

If you have a crafting class there is also a Goblin near Black Brush in Thanalan who will teach you about materia.

Otherwise check around the cities or your journal for quests. You can set it so recommended quests in the area will pop up as soon as you log in or zone. It can be very helpful while leveling. Later on you will be getting a lot of your quests from Vesper Bay in the Waking Sands in particular. So check back in there if don't see any other quests.
