Let us commission screenshots as paintings

Have you ever had a screenshot so awesome that you wanted to hang it on the wall of your apartment or house?

What if SE had a system in place to allow us to do that? For a fee (aka gil sink), we could submit screenshots for commission by Joyous Painter.

I doubt it'll happen, since screenshots are held client side. SE is pretty fascist about server side control and miserly about using server resources.

Awesome idea. I'd rather be able to hang pictures of my friends and me in my apartment instead of the portraits of Hildibrand and MSQ people. +1 to you OP.

That would be fun, and isn't completely unheard of in MMOs. Another game I play I play lets you make custom images that can be used as either paintings, or for your boat sails / car crests, etc - and it's not just client side either. Shows up in the active world for everyone. It's a pretty cool feature

I think it could be do-able, I play a game that even lets your character paint portraits so you can hang them too! It's a really sweet idea.

That's not the reason why we don't have this sort of thing already in the game though (and probably never will) - it's the same reason why we can't use custom artwork for FC crests.

The later was also asked back during the Beta test and the development team responded that human nature being what it is, someone would inevitably think it funny to use something for FC crest artwork that is in violation of the Terms of Service, and thus it would require SE to check each hypothetical image before it could be used to ensure it complies with the ToS, a tedious and time consuming task which would eat into development resources which could be better spent elsewhere. So SE decided not to implement such an option.

In much the same way, it means screenshots won't be able to be used as in-game paintings either sadly, as awesome as it would be to have.

To not have to check each image, they could simply ("simply") add an item such as an ingame camera, that saves say the last 5 screenshots you took with it, and lets you get those as paintings. It wouldn't allow you to use screenshots you already have, but you could use new ones you take.

I've thought about this too, I'd love this feature! I understand they don't want people to add their own images from the outside world, so maybe it could be like the Sims, taking a photo (screenshot) with some sort of ingame camera feature and using it as a paint (?)

Personally, I'd love it if I could take screens with my friends and keep them as a memory in my house.
