From the bad, comes the good (a happy story)

With how bad people claim this community to be (I do it too) I wanted to share a story that just goes to show there are still good people out there (although it starts off with a bad one).

If you're on Hyperion and are an FC leader, you might know of a certain individual of late who's been applying to FCs, clearing out as much of their company chest as they have access to then running. I am a little ashamed to say it happened to me too, normally I check with people if they know someone who's applying, but the other morning I was preoccupied trying to make space in our LS since it was 128/128 and had only just woke up. So with a quick check of the player's levels, I assumed they were new and let them in. Within only a few minutes he was gone, I assumed he must have wanted a bigger FC or something since only a couple people were online at the time, and forgot about it. It wasnt until later I realised he'd robbed the first two pages of our company chest and that, unfortunately, while those pages were only supposed to have cheap stuff in it, members had been putting quite a lot in there, including 300k worth of krakka roots.

You might say 'well its your fault for letting new members access the chest' and maybe that's right, people in mor dhona certainly thought so when an officer shouted about it to warn people later on. But I don't want to have to treat everyone with suspicion, our FC is designed to help new players. But this isn't really the point. We lost a lot from our chest, but I wasn't all that bothered. I could replenish most of the gear and foods myself if I have to, the krakka roots would just take time to grow. And it was me who let the person in the FC. I also should have been keeping better tabs on what was going on with the chest in the last few weeks anyway.

What makes this a happy story though is the reaction of the people in my LS. The LS was for my FC, and the people who were already in FCs but wanted to hang out with us. It's primarily made up of my own and a neighboring FC in the goblet, and a bunch of other people. They knew what happened, and aside from a few suggestions of 'maybe keep the new members on a rank that cant access chest,' they were all sympathetic. Many of them were approaching me to share gil for our chest. Our neighbor gave us some krakka roots from their garden. People were quickly depositing gil and items in the (locked) pages to replenish what we lost without being asked to. Like I said, it was my own fault and I was prepared to replenish it myself. Even 2 days after, I'd log on and people would send me a tell insisting to help out when I told them they didnt have to.

So while one person thought they would make a quick profit by robbing FC chests, there were plenty more out there with no obligations who were more than willing to help out. The fact we had so much in the chest to begin with shows people were more interested in giving than taking as well.

There are good people in the community, you just have to find them

You always have to be suspicious of everyone you let into your FC because you have to protect those you already have.

Overall, at least you know who you can rely on now in the community.

That behaviour is rather more harm than good imo.
My last fc i was in, he was all protective and what not and he booted me because of the wanting to protect his small tightly knit fc. So i was like whyyyyyyu Q_Q.
But a week later or something tht same fc leader merged fcs and made it into a giant cess pool of elitism and stuff. I'm like wtf he told me tht he wanted to protect his fc but instead he abandoned his ideal and thought about coil 2nd progression > tight fc.
Then there's a nutt job who comes around on these forums who likes to comment in threads i've been to talking about their fc. Lol

I'm sorry that happened to you!
But thank you for sharing! Lovely to know there are also many people willing to help people in need (whether they ask for it or not!)

It's easy to lose sight of things in a world as wide as this one, but if you keep going, you're sure to find what you're looking for, sooner or later.

That is a shame but might i suggest you put brand new people in a rank with no chest access, give them a set amount of time of your choosing and then promote them to a higher rank call them "fresh meat" or something (obviously don't use something that cliche, but you get my point) it will help prevent that from happening again and give you some time to know the person.

I suggest this to any FC honestly, who don't background check members (asking if anyone knows them or of them)

This works extremely well. The person interested in ninja'ing your stuff is looking to work quickly in and out of as many FCs as possible before being black listed. If he joins and has to wait 3 weeks, chances are, he will have left before he even had a chance to access your FC chest. They aren't going to wait 3 weeks unless you have 50 million gil sitting in your FC chest.

It's funny when the person who begs for gil, wonders why they get kicked, and then responds to a thread like this. And don't wrry Yumi, Plat will be here soon

Actually we already had a system like that. New members get promoted after they've been active and talkative for a couple weeks so we have a chance to get to know them. They still could access the chest, but like I said it was only the pages with cheap stuff that wasnt supposed to be a big loss. Other members had just been putting stuff in those pages that shouldnt have been in there (the krakka roots for example, someone had harvested them for the person who had been growing them, and put them in there so that person could collect later when they logged on). New members are restricted to one page only now, and members have been reminded not to put expensive stuff in there.

Sorry to hear that you had to experience this, yet what a good ending! We've got a similar person on Cerberus, who after going the rounds of all the FCs, has now set up his own company with his ill-gotten gains, yet there's nothing can be done about these sort of people except be careful who you let in and warn others.

Theres a line between suspicion and merely being cautious. From the looks of it you were erring on the side of caution. You were a bit too generous to allow 2 of 3 pages to brand new recruits. I would have limited it to merely the first page. Its also good to see youve decided to remind others to not put the more expensive stuff on the first page. I wish there was a labeling system in the game where you get a tool tip when mousing over the button for each tab. Would go that extra mile to let people know or remind them that only items to a certain point should be placed in that specific tab. Another thing, Id assign a company member, probably someone of officer status thats been in the company awhile as sort of a company chest/Treasury officer. More or less to keep it organized and move items around to places they need to be in case someone else forgets. I used to have that job in a number of guilds/companies/etc when the game had a bank or sorts for items and currency.
