The points are an e-peen meter. It's your gamerscore and trophy level. You already get items as rewards for certain cheevos.

Yeah, like if we got shiney gold tools when we'd done a lot of gathering or synthing, or if we got special barding for looking after other peoples chocobos, or if we got like, an Apkullu minion for completeing something, or if we got GC specific gear for some achievements, or if we got nice titles we could show off, or even maybe like a special mount for having lots of commendations. That'd be awesome!!!! I wish SE would implement this ; ;I believe you misunderstand some of the sentiment here.
Many of us contest that this should not be a form of currency, but a long long term form of fame within the game, such as, every thousand or so points would offer a minion or mount or glamour (also from the master of the rolls npc), something trivial sure, but representative of our commitment to complete many obscure challenges, just like the subscription reward represents our commitment to simply continue subbing.

What better way to share your achievements than with a unique title that shows "how much you've played FFXIV and what feats you have overcome."
Just Sayin'. =D
Well, if they've decided they're not going to do anything with these numbers, then I think the numbers should be removed. I rather like the achievement system otherwise, but don't tack random numbers onto some of them if they're never going to mean anything. That's just confusing.
If people want a numeric score of how far along they are in the achievements, then make it actually show that. It'd be kind of cool to see how many we've completed, preferably (as BreathlessTao mentioned) as a ratio of completed/total achievements. They could do that both overall, and the completed/total for each category.
But the current system of just assigning meaningless numbers to some achievements (but not others) and then showing a total that isn't actually a total of anything just feels kind of broken.
At least with the useless point system on the WoW achievements, you get a feat of strength for reaching a specific total (It's over 9000; reaching 9000 total achievement points), it does absolutely nothing, and is rather easy to get nowdays, but still, it's something at least, lol. I agree with others that if there's nothing to build the points up towards, then it's kinda dumb to have them honestly.
That being said, as a console player, I'm going for both achievements and trophies, which surprises me that they're not linked there's lots of achievements that don't have trophies, and a few trophies that don't have an ingame counterpart

I like that idea, too. Either put the value (number) for an achievment totally away or give them a meaning![]()
Yeah...DCUO was pretty cool by giving one bonus stat point every 100 points. Maybe thats a little to much for FF ARR but maybe every 500 points? So u get like 4 points to spend at 2000 achievment points...nice to have but not imba. A tiny motivation to Finish up Some things but no force.
But yes...i like the Glamour idea, too! No silly crowns tho XDDD
Stat points for achievements how can I put this . . . No
As for accumulated achievement points granting cosmetic rewards, minions, or mounts. I am all for that. It isn't going to break the game. You aren't going to get some piece of gear that suddenly makes you super viable in raiding. Some people like to chase achievements or just to kill time, I see no harm in expanding that play style as long as it remains cosmetic-type items.
As for why they are in game at all, I believe that all titles on Sony's systems, at least the systems with a trophy system in it, are required to have Achievements. This is one of the reasons that Monster Hunter stopped being a Sony exclusive and moved to Wii, the designer wanted people to play the game for what it was and not achievements. Or it could all be a rumor.

The in-game achievement system is completely separate from the trophy system. The console versions of FFXIV:ARR have both, but they reward different things. There's a lot more achievements than there are trophies, and in general the actions that earn you one will not earn you the other.
I agree that achievement points are not to be used as currency but I would also agree that this would be a nice perk to have considering Guild Wars 2 has something very similar in place. Glamour(s), minion(s), mount(s) ect. maybe 1 of each obtainable through achievements earned that just unlocks once you reach the proper achievement number/total.
