    a gardening question

So this is probably not the right place to post this, but I figured since we gather seeds and all, someone might be able to help me out. I've been doing a lot of reading up and I think I understand gardening for the most part, but what I don't understand is the crossbreeding spreadhseet that is going around, like this one.

From what I understand, only TWO plants are needed in order to crossbreed and produce seeds on top of product. This spreadsheet lists Plant 1 (Harvested), Plant 2 (Adjacent), and Plant 3 (Adjacent). To me, this sounds like three plants are needed in order to crossbreed and produce seeds -- the two adjacent listed and the one harvested in the middle. So what's the deal here? Thanks in advance!

You know what's so overpowered in this game, that they just HAD to leave out?
    -Buffing during cutscenes.
    -Pets receiving the Protect buff.
-A blacklist with more than a 200 player capacity.
-Filtering the flying text for your own numbers.
-A better way to organize and sort through your macros.

    Massive gardening thread here: http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...ing-Harvesting

That spreadsheet was made when gardening first came out and people didn't know only two seeds were needed to cross. I'd like to say it's an outdated way to record data but it does narrow down combinations to two plants when people don't note the order in which they plant things.

From what I see on this sheet is you have different Tabs :

1st tab "harvest results" is the experiences done. So if you plant something between 2 plants it is noted.

2nd tab "confirmed crosses" you have the confirmed crosses with only 1 plant adjacent noted.

The creator of that spreadsheet has created a website, it's awesome:

I've seen it, it just links to the document I posted. Guessing to just use the second tab of the document, the "confirmed crosses".

Note that most people plant 8 at a time in a grid like this:

    A - B - A
    B - x - B
    A - B - A

    x is the scarecrow.

You may only need two, but many think that having two... um.... pollen donors increases the odds of success. In that grid every plant has two pollen donors.

So it works like this (there is also documentation on the spreadsheet and database site explaining all of this).

The Harvest Results tab is a collection of all harvest results submitted by users. Since there can be more than one plant adjacent, all adjacent plants are taken into account. Once a seed has a couple crosses with the same adjacent plants, we can narrow down which adjacent plant is needed for the cross.

Once that is figured out, they are put into the Confirmed Crosses tab which shows the Harvested Seed and the Adjacent seed needed for a cross. You are correct in that only one adjacent plant is needed for a cross.

The web site is basically a database with all the Confirmed Crosses for easy searching, etc... and should be used in replace of the spreadsheet, however, the Confirmed Crosses tab is still updated every couple days and the web site is updated accordingly.

Hope this helps. If you've more questions feel free to ask me.
