I was hoping to upgrade the mouse first.
If you go to the system menu, there’s an option for Keybindings in there. Look for the “Hotbar” section where it mentions the 12 key for each available Hotbar. By default the keys from the 1st hotbar range from the keys 1 to =.

You also have 2 Hotbars enabled by default. For me personally, i’ve enabled the 3rd Hotbar (in the HUD/UI Settings) and spread my skills over these 3 bars.

When it comes to the Keybinding itself, i try to keep the skills i use the most near my left hand, namely the 1 to 6 numeric keys. To get as many of the skills close to my left hand, i would use the SHIFT, CTRL and ALT keys and bind them to the 1 to 6 numeric keys. This gives me access to 24 skills.

This is what my hotbar set up looks like on my White Mage:

If you look at the numbers of each bar, the left side uses the 1 to 6 numeric keys. The C in front of the numbers are the CTRL+[number] keys, the A’s are the ALT+[number] keys and the white dot (located on the 2nd hotbar to the right) are the SHIFT+[number] keys.

I also try to keep certain skills grouped together, like the Elemental/Attack spells at the SHIFT 1 to 6 keys, but also my healing skills (1 to 3 and ALT 1 to 3). Most of the time, i’m opening with with a Divine Seal (CTRL+1), followed by a Regen (ALT+1) and Cure 1 (regular “1”-key).

Hopefully this will give you some idea’s for using keybinds in combination with your Hotbars.
