This is true for all leve quests though. To change it to allow for a mixture of both HQ/NQ would also have to change it for every other turn-in quest.
The cake is a lie.

Of course. It just wouldn't be hard to implement. Also it hurts a lot more with this quest than anything else.
Edit: Leves with non-stackable turn-ins already do this. You can trade in 1 hq 2 nq of a crafted gear. Easy as pie even to just change this fishing quest to have 3 boxes where you'd put 1 fish each.

I saw this and was all "Oh if I had this, I'd play again" and then I read it was from fishing and was all "Ok, time to wait 4 months more and hope the price drops. GG FFXIV A realm to wait on rarity to drop."
it took me about a week of fishing to catch 5 lone ripper
in the end I got 1 sand and 4 fails at 70% success per attempt
that rng :'D

I had every pre 2.2 one and two-star, 2.2, and about 5 different fish from 2.3 and all I have to show are sands, pigments, crystals, dark matter, and that wonderful clear demimateria. I'm about ready to take RNG out back and give it a what-for.
well, there are only 2 2.2 fish who actually give swimsuits and 7 known 2.3 fish which spend sandals, cotton and suits
My biggest beef with the 2.3 bigfish (not even 2.2 ones) are the fact that a lot of them only have 2 hour windows. And when I say 2 hours I mean 2 Eorzea hours which is only like 2-3 real time minutes.
Take Twitchbeard for example:
1. Must be mooched with full moon sardine
2. Must be during clear/fair weather
3. Can only be caught between 4am-6AM (at 6am you can no longer catch full moon sardines too mooch it)
So now I basically have to have RNG luck to even get an HQ sardine in those 2 hours, and then hope the sardine actually catches a twitchbeard and not a nautilus. So far, this has not happened. This is not the only fish that has this 2 hour window. Captain's Chalice in Western Lanoscea, Joan of Trout in Upper Lanoscea, Vip Vipper in South Shroud all suffer the same fate.
I can deal with HQ/NQ/desynth rng, I can deal with dumb weather requirements, but this 2 hour window thing needs to go. I end up wasting so many foods because I only need them for about 5 minutes and I have 26 minutes left trying to figure out where I can go to make good use of the rest of the time.
Lol you think that's bad try the Sinker (or what I like to call the STINKER) in South Shroud...
I didn't have issues with Gobfather though, caught it on my first attempt.
That's why I do most of my dedicated fishing time on Sundays. Just don't have enough time during the week to sit down and play weather/time/zone tetris for each fish lolBut it is that extreme trust me. This is coming from someone that finished the first set of the Big Fish log and I've only caught about 6 of these new one and they seem more myth-like with the catch rate, short time of day, certain weather conditions, and the high RNG rate. As a casual with not much time to put into the game, I've all but given up on it completely. I think that's really the point of this thread, it's casually extreme this fishing is..
