Then they got rid of it becuase people were afraid to fight things in the open world.
So they remove the agro system from the open world when nobody needs to even do anything in it to even have such a silly concern. I miss efts being sound agro, they would perk up if you ran too close to them and start "Searching" for you, if you started to walk or stay still you could get away from them.
But in these days when monsters aren't even anything to sneeze at this is of no concern...shame really.
Things like this made gathering in high level areas give your items more value due to the time and challenge it took to actually get the items instead of just smacking a tree/rock in the field where monsters seem allergic to spawn. Feel free to check out my old thread about the monster AI in my signature. This is way back in 1.0 when they first cut down the idea, they teased us with information that obviously never came to fruition as once 2.0 hit they just cut any thought of AI or uniqueness to monsters out the window.
