I suspect their reasoning is for a combination of different factors, and not just "fairness" as people keep arguing.



A commonly overlooked one is that it really doesn't matter if it's a cheat-tool or not, as these tools come from a source other than SquareEnix... Which may not be reputable, put the security of their customers in jeopardy, and which they certainly have no control over.

This is simply put, something that NO COMPANY is going to endorse for the repercussions that come with it (such as dealing with inevitably hijacked-accounts, etc). The only way to protect their players, imo, is for it to be discouraged / aka, made illegal.
