The obvious answer is just to eliminate the combat log entirely. /facepalm (that's how ridiculous this argument has gotten.)
Funnily enough I don't see anyone complaining using sites like xivdb or erozapedia, which also takes data from the game and mines it to give players an advantage.
Can't be against one thing and for the other kids. Parsers don't do much but give you the same information you can figure out yourself (though would take much more time).

Most DPS checks in the game are completely trivial by the mid patch of each cycle and exist only really to slow down the front runners from clearing the entire set of new content within the first week. I can understand the use of parsers for the specific groups that are trying to clear the newest content immediately and server firsts as it requires getting every single little bit of DPS out of your lesser geared characters. Roll on 3 months later and everyone is walking around about 10 ilevels higher than necessary (from just easily obtainable tome gear) for the dps check in the first place. Then at this point parsers become pointless because you don't need them to "maximise" dps as you already do enough to pass the checks necessary and the majority of all the fights from there on is just not dying.

The stand alone game is conquerable without the aid of a single crutch such as a parser, radar, or otherwise. FFXIV is no where near the difficulty level of games that "require" parsing. If you feel as though it's necessary in this game, well I hate to break it to you -- you should just get better. No game is impossible to beat without a 3rd party crutch -- after all what did your parents do to beat such games as TMNT.
P.S. This is not my main...

I think the problem with the analogies of stop watches and other quality of life examples is that SE said "you may not use these". So in the sprinting example the organization tracking you said "you may not use a watch". Therefore the analogy no longer works, even if it would make sense to use one.
Perhaps when they add officially supported modding will we be able to "officially" rest these issues, but until then I think its clear parser are not allowed and it doesn't matter they are helpful or not inherently evil.
Edit: Though I do think SE wants to not make this a major issue, so long as you dont say "I use this parser, from this site, this is my character name" I doubt they will try very hard to punish you lol. Say radar on the other hand..![]()

Yeah the moment they start banning people for parsing is the day it goes all over the MMO news websites. Thats bad publicity and they don't want anything to do with it. And it actually sounds like they want to implement addons so that people can actually use damage meters instead. And thats going to be an awesome can of worms. The reason people say players abuse others because of parsers is because of how damage meters were used in WoW, NOT because of how parsers were used in Everquest.
But that's why I suggested these people actually try them out before judging them. They're shooting themselves in the foot. But the fact is, they're not even serious. Like I said, they won't report or even post in the parsing threads in the DPS section.

The best phrase any gamer can use is this simple phrase.... Spirit of the game. Parsing obviously goes against the spirit of the game as it is a third party to the game and isn't created by SE for use within the game.

Turn 8 you HAVE to do a certain amount of dps to beat it. Everyones i100 lets say. You hit enrage timer, no one died. You can't determine who's dps is holding you back, what do you do?(Disclaimer: I do not use a parser but I support their use.)

seriously i read fun content, a good rl will know when a dps is low, based on gears and the rotation they do.
anyway, any program outside the game that help you in anyway, are forbidden that said, you use them at your risk and if you think SE will not banned people using parseer... you don't know them, they can and will probably do it.
They cannot because they cannot detect it without messing in your PC.seriously i read fun content, a good rl will know when a dps is low, based on gears and the rotation they do.

People seem to think that a parser does anything with the files you get and modifies them but this completely wrong.
All a parser is is a calculator that reads log files from your local PC. For square to detect you are using one they would have to access your computer or at least see what are you else running in the background which is a lot more illigal then using parsers to begin with.
