Expansions?

New the game and was wondering, has there been any talk of expansions yet?

Yes there have been some talks about an expansion, we are currently on the 2.x's because in fact A realm reborn is an expansion to 14.
We don't know much about when its coming and it won't be some time yet since the story will apparently need to lead up to an event much akin to the end of the 1.x's though people like to hedge there bets on some time mid 2015, I've also heard in some places the content which we will be getting will possibly rival the amount of new stuff from 2.0 (which was a complete redesign so I'm not sure on that one.)
It will also include flying (On Free Company Airships if I'm not mistaken) which is what I am looking forward to.

Yep. They've been working on the first expansion for a while now. If you google for "FFXIV First Expansion" you'll find some articles. There isn't a ton of detail on it yet. Most of the questions people ask about the expansion get "We can't really talk about that yet" as an answer. Yoshi-P has said that it's going to have as much content as the relaunch itself (2.0, so not as much content as we have now, but still a lot), and we know that it'll include new classes/jobs, but not how many or which ones. Can't remember what else has been definitively said about it.

Actually you reminded me, I think we were promised a new tank class and healer class weren't we?
Also while we don't know for sure if its going to be added in 3.0 we were also promised a new race so that's another thing to look forward to.

The FanFests in October/November are supposed to have some big announcements about the expansion pack if I recall correctly. I'm still hoping for an early 2015 release, like in the end of January or start of February.
