Combat retainer gear - iLevel only or best in slot?

My retainer (LNC) reached lvl 50 and i found out than it's nesessary to obtain hi-level gear to equip... before lvl 50 it wasn't critical for 18h missions.
Just now i use any i60-80 loot - "All classes", "Disciple of War", etc.
Is it enough at all or gear for "LNC/DGN" may allow to get better result?

While there may be some sort of behind the scenes mechanism to favor appropriate gear, I haven't seen any evidence of it. As such my PGL retainer is i81 or something by using a combination of whatever high level gear I had for him. Some healing and tanking accessories, but he doesn't seem to mind.

for adventurer classes it's seemingly only ILVL, but for gathering classes i think they need the actually stats.

I have a conjurer with full CT 80 that i don't have a use for anymore and i90 jewelery with the primal i90 MH and first hand can tell you that you would get the same drops as long as the ilvl is there sadly. I don't appreciate it at all but at least my gear has some use at this point rather than sitting in retainers waiting for lvl increase for desynth on myth gear...

anyways, no it doesn't matter. I've actually known others in fc with min gear to do the quick gathers and they come back with rediculously better items than mine do. Tonberry couches compared to 3 couerl skins is a major let down for me

They mostly need the gathering though.
So far I have seen no reason to meld my DoL retainers with any perception, but you will definitely need to meld some gathering material to do the highest field explorations.

My combat retainer (Tank) wears half of my old Black mage accesoires to meet the requirements for the highest 18 hours venture. Has zero influence on what he brings back as far as I can tell. For the DOL, I always wondered if they really only need gathering and can disregard perception completely. They should return more HQ items if your perception value is higher but I can't be arsed to overmeld them as well so I just live with what I have.

My retainer Kite is level 50 conjurer, 85 item level! Just keep ur old gear and give to them. Thats what i did.
