I've got one macro as a warning when something big is going to happen (i.e. stuff like fear itself in Hydra).

I can easily make a macro for an attack, but I choose not to since I don't do a ton of content that needs it. As blowfin said, people don't need to see in the chat every time I use blunt arrow. Been thinking about putting one for raise though, so the other healer can see who I got if there's more than one down.

The best use of a /p macro I've seen was a long time ago in an Ifrit normal, some guy (on the gilgamesh server if I recall) had a bunch of /p macros... They were pirate jokes! I wish I took a screenshot of his name and some of his jokes, some were pretty funny.

Well...despite you thinking you know how every fight in the game is going and every situation with every party without you being it in...yes there is sometimes a second to toss an Esuna in there without anyone dying... <.<

Do I sit and wait if someone else takes damage? No...but nice job assuming that? ....Haha

99% of macros are useless and annoying in this game. Silence rotations can be useful, maybe hallowed ground, but not much else.

I use p macro for E4E like others have stated but also for LB, mostly for flavor text but also just in case someone doesn't know lb is going off

No. Please no. Next people will be saying more people should have sound effects in their macros. The worst though are the macros with someone's idea of a witty joke in them (e.g. Hey <t> why are you coughing, you must have a {Virus} - and yes, I actually saw this). Macros are annoying. As for buffs/debuffs, there are handy icons for those displayed under the mob name and in the party menu. Granted, some players can't even manage to notice large red circles on the ground, but those players are so oblivious I don't think they will notice a macro either.

    Hey that's me! ahahah!

I use 3+1 macros with "/p" and yes I tried to write them with rhymes:
    Eye 4 Eye: so that other party members can cohordinate and we don't waste our E4E;
    Virus: same reason as above
Raise: again, the purpose is to avoid me and the other healer resurrect the same dead party member (it saves MPs and SwiftCast).

When I'm healing at Ifrit EX I also use a macro to tell that I am the one with Seering Wind. It has a sound and also casts regen on me.
I can see why someone might find /p macros annoying, but as long as they have a purpose they aren't more annoying than a bad glamour or players that think they are playing "solo" even when they are in a full party.

Okay I laughed at the virus macro. George Takei ruined my sense of humor! xD

Get these stupidly long sentences and then at the end of reading it all, you find out what move someone did. If I ever put a chat line in my macros, I like to keep it short, simple, and to the point. Someone that I occasionally end up in a party with makes a provoke macro that's something like:

"Don't you wish your girlfriend was cute like me {Provoke} <se.#>"

which is just pointless. I like my stuff to be functional although I do enjoy a good custom emote macro.

I baaarely use macros ever. Right now the only one I have is to notify my LS and party of an elite mark if I find one.

Otherwise I just don't see why I should use one. No skill on my DRG that I see use for to make a macro. Sure, I could make one for Blood for Blood or something to let people know I'm gonna be more squishy for a bit but with Foresight up alongside it it's barely noticeable anyway. Not to mention usually not even taking any damage while it's up so long as there's no roomwide AoEs or a tonk losing aggro.

And yeah, the age-old Berserk... Why to god should I make a macro for a skill that boosts my damage a lot for a while because it renders me useless for 5 seconds. It's not like I'm gonna lose aggro in 5 seconds after going crazy with overpowers, steel cyclone and whatnot. Not to mention by the time healers notice it's almost gonna be off anyway.

Oh, and indeed some people's macros are just unnecessarily long and pointless. If you're using one; keep it short and to the point. Like yesterday in ST there was someone with an LB macro. Verrrrry long sentence (it was in French, so I don't even know most of what it said) with at the ended "COSMIC FIST! (limit break)" so yeah... I had to read all the way to the end to figure out what it was even for, gg.

I use em and I keep it simple.
    /p <wait please><casting spell><stoneskin><protect> (in 4 man dungeons)

    /p Just used <swiftcast><resurrect><t>

    /p <attack><t> (after shield lob & mark 1)

Sure, some can be annoying. A friend of mine had an alert macro with his hp% to tell the healers. Stressful to see and completely distracting. Needless to say once he leveled healer, I noticed he didn't use it anymore.
