Why you should have at least one macro with a /p line.

Something I've noticed in XIV since I started back at launch is that, unlike the olden days, almost nobody uses chat lines in their macros anymore. Not even to brief the party on their status.

Granted, it wouldn't be a good idea to use them on common rotation skills, else the chatbox will be filled up with Joebob Dragoon spamming Impulse Drive. But for certain less used but important abilities its good to notify your party of what is going on. It also livens up the party a bit, since you see people "talking" even in the midst of combat, and it feels less like you're just playing with NPCs.

    For example:

My WAR has a macro for Flash that also calls out my current TP. A good WAR doesn't use Flash often, maybe once at an odd pull or when Pacified after Berserk, so it doesn't spam the log. It also has the effect of letting any BRDs know if Paeon would be useful, or if we might need to slow down the pulls.

My BLM has a macro that stacks Raging and Quelling Strikes, and alerts the party that I'm going into a heavy AOE rotation or am otherwise going to be unloading some hurt. This means the tank knows to go all out on hate for a minute, and also lets the other guys know that I'm not slacking off, i.e. Levi Spumes, T6 Bees.

Its just useful. Its nice. People should do it more often.

I have a nice little Berserk macro to let the healers know I'm shortly going to be Pacified. Doesn't always encourage them to clear it off me though...lol. I also macroed Holmgang for the benefit of the healers as well as so people know I'm not intentionally eating an AoE...Im stuck to the ground!. For SMN and SCH I have lines on my Virus macro to let people know I debuffed the target. It's also designed with a "target of target" so I can remain targeted on the tank for heals and still Virus the main target.

I have Eye for an Eye macroed that way. Whether I'm on healer or summoner, it's a good way to let other healers know that it's up.

Because people know, that it can get annoying for some, so they just avoid it.

Most of the macros are just spam. I would argue giving your TP is spam. Are you asking for a bard song then ask for that. You've illustrated why it's spam. Just because you want the party to know how 'awesome' you are they don't need to know. Spamming party chat with irrelevant nonsense doesn't make it feel alive, if anything it makes it more dead and just a second combat log for attention seekers.

I'd argue a warrior who uses flash often is a good warrior. You don't need the MP for anything else so why not save some precious TP and use an AoE hate generator - that doesn't break CC - even if it's not better than an expensive overpower.

if i knew how to make macros that state my HP/MP/TP i might be more inclined to use them, i do use a macro for songs on my bard though.

Being main WHM/SCH I thank you for using that, and any other WAR who does the same.

I don't mind removing the pacify if I know it is coming and I have a second to remove it, if there is a macro telling me "Pacified in 1 second" I can time an Esuna/Leeches and remove it immediately. Pacify lasts such a short time that if I don't know it is coming and my GCD is going there is pretty much no point in removing after that.

Not going to lie, those two macro's seem pretty pointless to me.

Either way some macro's are semi-useful, like letting your partner healer know who you're resing. They don't always help though. I've lost track of how many times a newbie PUG healer has stood there hard casting a res after I already swift casted a res on the same person 10 seconds ago.

Ehh, even I find berserk macros a bit unnecessary, eventually. I pull multi groups of mobs when I go to dungeons and usually between berserk start and berserk end, I consume boatloads of TP for insane AOE enmity generation. Pacification from berserk lets me gain back some tp and I can still generate enmity through flash. It also lets me balance TP and MP loss all the way to the boss, allowing me to never stop between pulls. Pacification doesn't disable my stun so it isn't a huge deal on single target bosses either.

I do announce my songs though, just to show people that I'm a 'bard that plays songs' and maybe get extra commends from people who appreciate it, even if I'm way past the 500 mark. :^)
