    anniversary event.

they just did post this in the lodestone:

    http://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodest...3a7ff71068fa43

i dunno for you but personally i feel insulted to be left out, i'm tired to feel that outside japan, the community don't deserve the same treatment. why can't we have a live translation?
because they don't have translator? wait they did hire reinhart and i'm sure they have a lot more than this.

we don't ask them to be perfect we simply want to feel that we have the right to be of the party. if some error happend, correct them after, it's ok, but let us join the fun!

or if you don't want let us be part of it... don't post this on the lodestone outside japan. because right now it's only rude for all the other community of the game. it's like if french was coming on the english forum and post discution in french and people had no right to understand and are forced to simply look at it without get what happend. i feel it's rude for every community to be left out for the first anniversary of the game.

it's time to get live translation for every live that yoshida do! the community is not only japanese!

Not sure of the statistic is still available or right, but NA was at one point the largest funder (throw in EU for good measure :P, I know not everyone from NA and EU speak english of course). I would think they could hire Fernehalwes his own eye and tongue army, beady eyed minions, and at least make some of this content live (or at least a few hours off live).

    I'd appreciate it :P

Fern isn't the only localization person of course! I appreciate the Q&A threads and the work in game.. :P, just someone getting paid to near live subtitle with SE's forethought to give a base script would be awesome!
14 Hour video is less my focus than just the live letters, this particular event would need to be done in shifts or with psychiatric benefits included. XD

I believe the reason why they do not perform real time translations is because they want to be 100% sure that whatever is said and translated means the same thing in both languages. This is done to prevent misunderstandings and misconceptions from being formed based upon the translators work. If they say it, its official but if a fan translates it, its unofficial and they do not have to worry about it as much because they could say something got lost in translation if they did not like the translation.

Definitely a good idea not to translate prematurely, but why would SE need that? You would think they have a script that translators could -know- what's what before even going in. Anything mistranslated would be jokes, so not the worse thing- since actual game information would have been already in script.

They do a Q&A forum page / twitter which is very nice, but I don't think they're money drought enough that they can't just release their video with subtitles delayed by a few hours or a day for their foreign audience that is substantial in size (we're not a small group that barely funds them). Or even offer translator voice over commentary, I'd definitely use it but I imagine some people might just want subtitles rather than commentary of what is going on.
Fern: "oh Yoshida is making a joke about this" *pauses video explains situation, then carries on*
Matt: *laughs* Well lets look at the next extreme fight as you see, Yoshida is holding up a new weapon to be earned.
    vs
    Yoshida: Hai,
    Fox: Hai,
Yoshida: Please look forward to it <-- subtitle example (joke.. ) lol .

It would take forethought and planning with extra money going out to pay these works on probably their weird off hours.. but it would feel like at least I was important. Rein made staying up late awesome, often pestering him in chats.. . It would be good for SE to be the people's people, I'd think.

Just my 1000K character cents.. :/

I'm sorry but this is just silly. I'm not that concerned about this event, but live translators are used by police, courts, the U.N... news stations... you name it. The "risk" of a small translation error on a video game live feed is laughable compared to all the places translators are used. I am not trying to insult you, so please don't take offense. I just think that for a multinational company that has a product that generates significant revenue from a geographic location that there is really no excuse to not have a translation available.

Yeah and they're terribly expensive or are contracted for that. For SE to do it, it would be the former. The other thing is, that person is right. If the translator does slip up and mistranslates, players WILL take it for gospel. They have to be careful, even though it's "just a game".

Well, let's just agree to disagree. The contract workers I have used for translation have not been bad at all. That assumes that this company doesn't have translators on staff (which would surprise the heck out of me). SE may or may not offer translation, but I will just rest with my contention that a multinational and publicly traded company with significant foreign markets should offer translation for those markets in a major marketing or publicity event.
