    The Feels

My subscription is up in 5 days. I decided not to renew because I have some IRL stuff going on, I just got a PS4, I have got to defeat my massive PS3 backlog before Sept./Oct (SO MANY GOOD LOOKING GAMES COMING OUT!) besides that my busy season at work is approaching, my future step-sons are starting high school and it is Renaissance Festival season (good bye weekends!) which means I will have even less time to play.

Such mixed feelings! I am excited to play other games. (Currently playing Thief, thinking of starting Last of Us or Witch and the Hundred Knight next!) However, I get a little emotional at the thought of NOT playing FFXIV and I have NO IDEA why! Like I am betraying the game or something! I know, it's crazy! I still have so much left to do in the game, I keep telling myself I will subscribe again next summer or after the next big patch...but will I!? I don't know!!

I know it is not that big of a deal, but has anyone else ever gone through the feels of unsubscribing for an undetermined amount of time?

Of course, that's not a strange feeling at all, at least for me.
It's easy to get attached to a game indirectly, thanks to the routine it gave you in your life, where you expect to meet always some friends, tag along and have some fun together.

I mean, departing from a MMO is not the same as putting a single player game on the shelf, MMO's are more than games, are social platforms.

I didn't unsubscribe, but I did take a break at some point.. I was doing the grind to get philo and myth stones, and it just totally burned me out. Also, being on an American server at the time didn't help much with getting groups going. I never really missed the game during that break actually, but I did miss the people I'd played with. I went and played ESO, but that quickly turned into a bore for me for unknown reasons..

When I decided to try ARR again, I also decided to go for an EU server. Met a whole bunch of nice new people there, and I've been helping people doing dungeons for exp, help people get their first relics, and generally just have fun. I stopped caring about the loot or needing the have the best this or that, and instead just do the things I enjoy doing in MMO's.

Indeed. One night you'll wake up and see a horde of lalas next to your bed all saying this.

I'm purely curious, does this game guilt trip you like most MMO's when you unsubscribe?

I still recall seeing a crying gnome when I did it for WoW and I'm still getting e-mails from SWTOR on how my companions lives are falling apart without me...

    Always remember the Silver Rule:
"Treat others as they treat you!" ...or something like that.

The siren call of this game is very strong Haha. I'm sure you'll be back.

As for your question, yes, I've felt the same way. I tend to take a week or two off at a time in order to focus on other games (mostly training for competitive Pokémon or playing Monster Hunter or my MASSIVE backlog of Steam-Sale games) and all the while, I do feel guilty for not playing FFXIV. The above poster said it best when they mentioned the routine it gives your day to day life. I've made friends in the game that I miss as well. Hell, the most time I get to play games with my brother who lives in another city is when we're both playing FFXIV along with other IRL friends. So in the times I'm practicing or participating in tournaments and whatnot for other games, I'm constantly thinking "Man...I really need to run some ST and work on ATMA and see how the FC is doing....".

All in all, Eorzea is just a great place to spend time in! And now that I've typed out all this, I'm hearing that familiar Siren Song that's telling me to log in as soon as I get off work!

We'll miss you! See you next summer, or hopefully sooner than that! I don't like seeing people who genuinely love the game leaving, but I can understand things like financial or time constraints.

    Take care!
